Just to demonstrate, as if we needed more proof, that most journalists are incompetent, ignorant, lazy bunglers the CanWest newspapers (I saw the same thing in both the National Post and the Ottawa Citizen) published new evidence today.

The dunderhead is named Tim Naumetz.

His ‘story’ (fable is more like it) is that buildings with Liberal names outnumber those with Tory names by 3:1.

In his list of Liberal 'names' he includes George Pearkes, VC.

Pearkes was a Conservative Minister of National Defence in Diefenbaker’s government.

Naumetz should have stayed awake in university; then he might have become smart enough to become something other than a journalist - maybe a trash collector, if that's not the same thing.

Oh great. With "news" like this, how will I ever sleep tonight?  ::)

Was this today's Ottawa Citizen?  I'm interested to read the article.

yaaawn......where do I find work like this! I bet the general populace doesn't even realise these building were named after past politicians. And if they did realise that, they wouldn't know who half the people were anyways.

Major-General The Honourable George Randolph Pearkes, VC , PC , CC , CB , DSO , MC , CD (February 28, 1888 - May 30, 1984) was a Canadian politician, soldier, recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces, and Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.

In 1945 federal election, he was elected as a Progressive Conservative Party candidate in the riding of Nanaimo, British Columbia. He was re-elected in 1949. In the 1953 election, he was elected in the riding of Esquimalt—Saanich, British Columbia. He was re-elected in the 1957 and 1958 elections.

He was Minister of National Defence from 1957 to 1960.

It's available online at: http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/story.html?id=99c79526-fab5-4d0b-a723-40f23914d317&k=91118

Well I did serve on a Icebreaker named after him, didn't realize until a year ago that he held a VC, after which my respect shot up accordingly.

Wow, slow news day.

One note of suprise..our greatest Canadian, and father of that most sacred institution universal health care, Tommy Douglas, has no building named for him...

Now that is truly a grave misjustice

Yea, but CBC did make a movie about him where they got their facts wrong, isn't that the greatest honour a Canadian can receive?  ;)
