Having a dilemma on what I should do, need some advice

I finished high school in 2008, Im 21 now and I didn't really try in high school so I took a bunch of U courses at home and now my U average is at about 78 soon to be 80 after I complete this Philosophy course. I was planning on going to Uni for History or Political Science, maybe a specialist in both and later applying as an officer for Intel  or MP, possibly applying before once I get accepted. I would rather go to a civilian university, but I heard you need permission from a CO to do that. I was also reading the training phases,  do you get officer training each summer when the uni years over? May-Sept I believe. The main problem I have with all this is how I would do on the aptitude test, Im not good at math at all and I took work place math after grade 10, what score do you actually need on the aptitude test to be eligible for an officers job in Intel or MP? I know the math on it is grade 12 I believe and its problem solving, if I just improve my math skills in that area I might be able to do it.

My second option is to get a diploma in police foundations and join as an MP NCM. Does anyone know what Aptitude test score you need for a job like that? I was also wondering if the CF recognizes Trios College?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

For me, I was never told my score. I either "was accepted" or "was not" (and I was) for the trades I applied for.

Just don't worry about it. You shouldn't be aiming for a certain score, you should do as best as you can. If you're weak at math, take a math course and touch up on it if you're truly that concerned about your math skills.

I don't think its worth taking an entire course over since there is only problem solving on the AP test. I could practice some grade 12 math problems at home and get a text book somewhere. Is military police officer hard to get into? I was told that by someone who was previously in the CF but I think that job would require less mathematical knowledge then intel but I don't know for sure.

To be accepted as a officer in the CF you MUST meet the min standard for Officer on the CFAT. Study your math, realize that 90% of problem solving is not the math, but the UNDERSTANDING of what you are being asked to do.

Available INT O spots are few ( and fewer in the upcoming fiscal year...though watch and shoot as things may change)

MP O is also a highly sought after OFFR trade. To be competative in the selection process you need a combination of a good academic background, meet the OFFR standard in the CFAT AND be selected by the MP O Assessment team.

NOTE: We will not tell you the cut-off for any particular trade, as a previous poster stated you will be told wether you are successfully in qualifying for your trade choice or not.
Like interview questions, scoring systems and requirements are not subjects of open discussion and are in fact restricted info.

First if you take Macrinus88's advice then you can count on a long career as a civilian. There is in fact math on the CFAT. If you want to practice then go on line and type in "aptitude test" or "IQ test" Do as many as you can to practice. You need to train your brain to do these things quickly. Also if you go to a large book store chain you can buy books on aptitude tests. Go to the library and see what they have.

The CFAT is no joke. If you don't score high enough you will get a chance to rewrite MAYBE. You will have to wait 3 months and a waiver has to go in. You need to convince the MCC that you are ready and you CAN be turned down. It's best to go in ready and don't go until you are. I have counselled out a lot of people because they didn't take it seriously.

"Its only the military how hard can it be? or "They have to take me its my right as a Canadian" I have hear these and other catch phrases. Both these attitudes will get you accepted at the EI office not mine.
Just a word to the wise.

In all honesty before you go any further i highly suggest going down to your local recruiting station if possible. The recruiter there will be able to answer all those questions plus more that may pop up between now and then. They also usually have the latest information on what trades are available, and what your current options are.

As for the aptitude test, I recommend that you study for it. You can do this by going over the mock test from the recruiter gives you, or even doing simple iq tests online. Refresh your addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. The math on it is really grade 10 math, its also mostly problem solving. Go online and search for quizes that require simple math problem solving questions.

In my opinion dont stress to much about the test, it will only lead to failure. Just do whats required and as long as you study and prepare there should be no reason you fail.

Thank you for all the help, I was still wondering if the CF recognizes Trios college as an accredited academic facility, (its for the PF dilpoma). Also does officer training when a recruit is in uni take place every year for 4 years may-sept?

You need to clarify what you mean by "Officer Training". If you mean formal leadership training then that is done a BMOQ. If you want to get technical "Officer Training" is done throughout your whole career. Leadership is very big. You have to not only know your job but how to get others to do their job in order to complete the mission. Look up the 12 principals of leadership. They will play a big part in your career.

Normally what happens is if you are accepted to ROTP civilian university, is you are sworn in in July and do an indoctrination course the middle of August then attend first year. When that is done, usually in April you will be placed on a BMOQ that starts in May. It's 14 weeks and will be done in time for you the start back at school in September. After that your summers will usually be spent working in your trade if that's possible. If not you will be placed somewhere that you can work. You still get your 20 days annual leave too.

As for the college acceptance I'll have to check Monday when I get at my notes.
