Extrajudicial Executions and Torture in Gaza​

In its decade in power, Hamas operatives have routinely engaged in extrajudicial executions and torture as a means of punishment or intimidation. The majority of individuals executed by Hamas have been alleged collaborators with Israel or political opponents who have voiced opposition to Hamas’ rule. Many of these political opponents have in fact been executed under the guise of accusations of collaboration. Significant rises in Hamas’ summary executions can be seen during conflicts with Israel, but are not limited to these times.

Simultaneously, Hamas embarked on a campaign to suppress political dissent. Many political opponents were branded as traitors, when in reality they simply identified with Hamas' rivals. In January 2009, Fatah officials reported that Hamas had executed at least 19 of its members and shot more than 60 in the legs. Shooting in the legs, or "kneecapping," is a signature punishment used by Hamas against political opponents.

Hamas continued to suppress dissent in the months following Operation Cast Lead. In one example from January 27, 2009, Hamas Internal Security Force members arrested Osama Atallah and tortured him until he was delivered to the hospital in critical condition, where he died of his wounds. Osama was an open supporter of Fatah, who sources claimed was killed "because of his public and continued criticism of the performance of the Hamas militias in Gaza." On January 24, 2009, Zahar Al-Za'anin died of torture wounds. He was accused of collaboration and did not stand trial, but this accusation was met with massive uproar by many who claimed he was innocent. On July 27, 2009, Munir Bargasoresh A'ah, a Palestinian in his 20's, was found dead with signs of torture on his body. A former high-ranking member of Hamas, he had been accused of collaboration but did not stand trial. Also in July 2009, Hamas executed six accused collaborators, including three brothers, without a trial.

Israel’s military and intelligence officials were given a highly detailed warning that Hamas was actively training to take over kibbutzim on the Gaza border and overrun military posts with the aim of inflicting substantial fatalities, according to reports in the Israeli media.
The claim made by Israel’s Channel 12 on Monday evening was based on leaked emails from the Israeli military’s 8200 cyber-intelligence unit discussing the warnings.

Those emails revealed that a senior officer who reviewed the intelligence considered the danger of a massive surprise attack by Hamas across the Gaza border to be “an imaginary scenario”.

The hugely embarrassing leak describes in shocking detail what would turn out to be key elements of Hamas’s planning for its massacre of 1,200 Israelis on 7 October, including that Israel spotters were aware of senior Hamas officials present as observers during training preparations.

Herein lies the issue with intelligence - it can be accepted or rejected by those up in the chain.

Arguably the issue is that without proper analysis and dissemination, it’s just data points.

The major issue in this case is that several different Israeli intelligence gathering/analysis entities all had passed warnings up that this was a credible threat, and it was ignored at top levels of both the IDF and Government of Israel.

The problem you run into with intelligence, or in my experience weather, is that past experience often trumps current prediction. That is, when you predict something that the authority above you has not experienced before, your prediction is not as likely to be taken seriously.

I remember trying to explain to a woman in Bali that the air in Winnipeg got so cold on occasion that it can hurt to breath. She didn't believe me, because as a native of Bali she had never experienced below freezing temperatures before, let alone temperatures so cold that it is uncomfortable to breath the air.

Hamas had never conducted a raid of that scale in the past, so it's not hard to see how senior officials could dismiss it as an over reaction by the Int folks.

On Nov. 25, the United Nations initiated its annual Sixteen Days of Global Activism Against Gender-Based Violence against women and girls. This will continue until Dec. 10, which is Human Rights Day.
My people are the feminists at the UN. They also head NGOs, occupy chairs at foundations, human rights organizations, national women’s organizations, and Women’s Studies/Gender Studies departments, and are prominent Talking Heads in the media. For eight whole weeks, they have remained silent about the genocidal rapes of Israeli women on Oct. 7.
Some of these women once waged brave and determined battles against rape, incest, and domestic violence; supported the #MeToo Movement; and at least issued statements condemning the rapes of women in Bosnia, Rwanda, Sudan, and the Yazidi women who were kidnapped by ISIS.
They also supported the idea that rape is a war crime, at least in a battle zone.
However, these once visionary feminists have not only betrayed Israeli women – they have also betrayed women of color who live under Sharia law.
Most have remained relatively silent about the normalized mistreatment of Muslim women in Muslim countries and communities. They have not organized campaigns to end forced face veiling, polygamy, child marriage, routine girl- and woman-battering, or honor killing (femicide), either in foreign countries or in the West.
Why? Even though the victims of such injustices are primarily women of color, Western feminists have been very cautious about accusing men of color, especially men whose countries may once have been colonized, of crimes. They fear doing so might be seen as “racist.” Or “Islamophobic.”
Worse, some feminists in the West have actually glorified the forced wearing of the Islamic veil as a form of anti-colonial resistance. During the Women’s March in Washington, some women fashioned hijab out of American flags. Many anti-Israel rallies and marches feature both women and men, leftists and Muslims, sporting Palestinian keffiyehs as a way to signal their support – for the oppression of women.

These are the feminists whom I recognize as such.

Today’s world needs real feminism as never before. A politically correct, identity-obsessed version of Marxism will not do.

Not disagreeing or dismissing the other part of your post, but given no one had hijacked multiple aircraft and used them as Airborne Suicide Improvised Explosive Devices prior to 9/11 should have been a wake up call to any entity that the scale of attacks for future events would be generally planned on much larger scales than before.

Especially when 4 different and independent Israeli Int entities had evidence that something big was coming…
