I am going to take a few moments to discuss a changing view I have had in the last decade.
I am now pro Ecosystem Enabler and no longer interested in "mitigating or reversing climate change".
What happened? What changed? Why the transformation? I too once believed that emitting Carbon into the atmosphere was dangerous (put yourself in a garage, turn on the car and we all know what happens). However I also knew from grade 5 science that plants absorbed carbon as a food source through pores called stomata. Basic understanding, right? I was a pro man made carbon reducer kind of guy.
However, all is not as simple as thing seem. First, my wife and I underwent holistic management in 2013 and learned the basic teachings of Allan Savory. A brilliant man whos insights into desertification and decision making processes are very insightful and logical. After undertaking holistic management, my wife Lisa Waechter and I choose the term of us creating a "farm ecosystem" as at the time that term seemed more appropriate than "Climate friendly farm". Turns out by accident, we were onto something.
One of my ever growing thirst is for knowledge. I constantly want to learn more about things that interest me. I did very well in high school biology but struggled with chemistry and maths. So no scientist career for me. However this has not not stopped me from learning. And researching. And hearing and weighing BOTH sides of an argument. Making my own decisions. In other words, CRITICAL thinking (for real).
So in the last few years I have listened to many presentations by a large number of scientist (including physicist, geologist, meteorologists, biological chemist, paleontologist, etc). A few truths come to hit me that truly blew my mind.
1. The climate is always changing and shifting. And it has occurred rapidly at times without mankind's interference. Facts, folks. If you look at our history of the planet (going back way before the dinosaurs to now), you will be blown away at the changes our planet has made. The atmospheric carbon levels go way up and way down. Here is a concept, if atmospheric carbon levels get too low on this planet, all plant life will die from starvation. Read that again;
2. Atmospheric carbon levels are all over the place across the globe. Cities naturally have much higher levels due to not only more combustible engines but more PEOPLE. Yes, it seems the average person forgets that everything with a set of lungs on land or in the water, emits carbon (In the water things like kelp and other life forms absorb the carbon). In submarines, carbon levels get insanely high (see the work of Dr Happer) before the submarines come to the surface for air exchange. Remember commercial greenhouse gases PUMP CO2 into their closed in atmosphere to BOOST plant growth. Carbon is not a demon, it is not evil, it is simply an element;
3. Believing that carbon (from car engines mostly when talking "climate change") is the driver behind climate patterns and shifts is simply not true. While people focus on being "good little citizens" and not turning on their cars, the other factors that influence the climate are WAY beyond our control. A single volcano can eject FAR more carbon and other material kilometers into the atmosphere than you could imagine. Sometimes its so bad, it makes extreme changes temporarily to the global climate for a few years such as 1815 and 1883 massive volcano eruptions. Now consider there were at least 75 volcanic eruptions on land and an unknown number of eruptions in the oceans in 2023 alone. Mount Tonga alone erupted in 2022 caused massive weather shifts around the planet. The good news? There hasn't been a super volcano eruption in modern times (by modern since man began using metal to make tools thousands of years ago); and
4. On other causes of climate shifts, we are not told by a few ego or financial driven scientist and fear mongering politicians about other factors such as solar flare minimums and maximums (from the sun), proximity of Jupiter to Earth (yup affects our climate at different points in thousand year cycles), tectonic plate shifts (we can't and do not want to stop this) which literally creates mountains and new landscapes). Hey did you know the ocean floor topography is constantly changing as is the size of the oceans? There are many other factors as well that lead to climate shifts which see us going into or out of ice ages (and there are mini cycles within cycles). I am talking about the things we have ZERO control over.
Now, what I have observed. And it is deeply disturbing. Influential people such as politicians, scientist, business people, etc have used and abused the notions of human driven climate change to cause fear and panic in order to push through very reductionist driven agendas.
Solar and wind are NOT viable alternatives to nuclear and gas.
Electric Vehicles are just as environmentally destructive as gas and diesel vehicles.
Heat pumps are not suitable for extreme northern climates.
Taxes for emitting carbon does NOT lower carbon emissions.
Ruminants such as cattle and bison are NOT responsible for "climate change". Ruminants have existed in large numbers for 30 million years.
Forest fires are started by many things such as arson, lightning and human carelessness. Yet we fear cutting dead or dying trees out of a forest for fear of what the Lorax "taught" us back in the 70s. In other words, sensible forest management has gone right out the window.
You can wave a magic wand and remove all man made carbon from the atmosphere and you will still have powerful tornadoes, hurricanes, cyclones, blizzards, hail storms, etc. Its called weather, folks.
Nothing is being addressed about reversing desertification around the globe amongst all this madness and insanity. We are hyper focused on a symptom of our management. A very large desert in my opinion, will lead to impact on the climate. Its my opinion and only that, but it creates a massive heat source on land.
So what out of all this? Stop hyper focusing on stopping cars and trucks. And lets focus on using land, animals, water and natural resources to feed our planet while enabling healthy ecosystems to function. It is what we do on our farm. And we need some fossil fuel powered equipment to make that happen.

Last night the wife was watching a programme about Helsinki and I caught the comment that Helsinki had won an environmental prize because of its district heating system and its use of waste as a fuel.
I have referenced the use of incinerators in Scandinavia, Sweden in particular, before.
The Swedes burn their trash, and trash from Britain and Norway, in furnaces in Combined Heat and Power plants in, or adjacent to, residential areas. The plants supply electricity and hot water heating for city houses and apartments. The stack emissions are scrubbed.
Those furnaces are multifuel and can be fired by waste, biofuels, natural gas or coal.
No waste. Lots of electricity. Free heat (in Canada, with its remote power plants, distant from consumers of heat, that heat goes to waste).

Way back in the dark ages of McGuinty-Wynne power plants in Toronto were shut down and relocated and converted to natural gas at the same time as Toronto was shipping waste to Detroit because it lacked landfill space.
The Swedish solution would have been to upgrade those old plants while keeping them in place, converted them to multifuel facilities, install scrubbers and then start building out the hot water circulation system in the adjacent neighbourhoods.

The word 'incinerator' is political Kryptonite in Ontario. There is, as far as I know, one large-scale energy-from-waste incinerator in Ontario, jointly owned by Durham and York regions along with a much smaller one in Peel (private). Every time the concept gets brought up, environmental groups drag out the 3Rs as the solution. All the 3Rs in the world will still result in remaining waste and it seems it is okay to truck it to near London.
I suppose they could have kept the Lakeview coal plant but I guess it had more value going to developers. The Hearn station in Toronto is just a hulk but anything industrial, let alone an incinerator, has a taget on its back in Toronto. Apparently its better use would be an art gallery or 'community space'.
Toronto does have central heating/cooling in the core but it is lake-derived.

Interestingly the AOPs use an incinerator system for garbage disposal. My anecdotal understanding is it's pretty good.
As far as I know, nobody has definitively proven that climate change is man-made. They just scream such is the case. I mean there have been attempts at proving such a causation, however that's what they are, mere attempts. There are many people who are unconvinced about the the causal link between human activity and rising global temperatures, not just me. Many scientists who actually study this stuff for a living, do not believe in anthropogenic climate change. It is incredibly difficult to prove causation in a system as complex as the earth's climate and the fact some people think that they have proven it tells me that they need to go back to universities and re-learn basic science.
Earth's climate has always been changing. Maybe the changes we are seeing are not caused by us at all. Furthermore, there is probably nothing we can do about it. Mass extinctions of animals caused by climate change have happened before, so they can happen again. If we get wiped out, yes it would suck, but sometimes that's just how it is. All these laws and green initiatives that are being pushed on us come from a place of panic. Some people see that sea levels are rising, and are worried that we might be wiped out as a species. So they think they must do something to fight it. This is the survival instinct. This instinctual response is understandable but does not come from a rational place. These panicking people think that if they do something, maybe that will save humanity, and from this, they conclude that climate change must be man-made. They believe this not because it's true but because they need it to be true.

I remember Al Gore reappearing on the scene after his failed run at POTUS. All sanctimonious and pushing his climate narrative and CO2 with his Inconvenient Lies. I knew his previous work as a politician and decided he was applying the same principles to his new scam. I was convinced then as I still am, that although climate changes, it has very little to do with anything within our control. Having an ex politician as their spokesman was proof enough for me the all the chicken little, the sky is falling was a manufactured crisis. Now there is too much money and control built in, that it will be near impossible to kill. 200 years from now, they'll be looking back and wondering how a civilization like ours was so gullible to fall for the biggest con game know to mankind.
Oh, and Bill Gates is likely one of the most destructive, evil people on earth. We shouldnât be listening or enabling a single thing he's involved in. It's what happens when morons gain immeasurable wealth.

there are 20 years of graduates into the teaching profession that have been inculcated into the CO2 will kill you cult so two generations of their students to try and convince to the contrary. It will take 50 years to eradicate and only if you can keep the Trudeaus, Biden's and the like from gaining control. Good luck with that: just take a look at GB.

Climate Activism Has a Cult Problem
As a member of Extinction Rebellion, writes Zion Lights, I watched people brainwashed into pulling outrageous stunts in the name of âsaving the planet.â
Maybe you saw Van Goghâs Sunflowers smeared with two cans of tomato soup. Or the 20-year-old man who set fire to his arm at a tennis tournament, wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with the words âEnd UK Private Jets.â Or the traffic on Londonâs M25 highway blocked by protesters for days. One 24-year-old girl, Louise, climbed atop a crane on the highway. âIâm here because I donât have a future,â she exclaimed between sobs.
All these stories feature young members of a movement that claims to fight climate change by demanding their governments stop using and producing fossil fuels immediately.
Their methods seem unorthodox, and youâre probably wondering how defacing artwork or gluing your hand to the floor of a Volkswagen showroom reduces carbon emissions. I donât blame you.
The difference between me and you is I used to be one of them.
For the past 16 years, I was part of one environmental organization or another as an activist or paid employee. First it was Camp for Climate Action, where we protested a different corporation every year. Once, in a demonstration outside a bank in Edinburgh, we wore garbage bags and painted ourselves in molassesâa nod to the tar sands that the bank was investing inâand stormed the Royal Bank of Scotland headquarters, where I was arrested.
I became a mother in 2011, and swore off putting myself in danger, but I doubled down on my commitment to the movement. I wrote a book on ecologically minded parenting. I was the co-editor of a magazine, Juno, on the same subject. I gave talks, made television appearances, and wrote articles about the threat posed by unlivable temperatures that come from our reliance on fossil fuels.
Then, in 2018, I joined Extinction Rebellion UK, the precursor to Just Stop Oil, the group behind this recent spate of destructive direct actions.
I started out at the local level. Our group was part of the collective that took over Waterloo Bridge in London for two weeks. We packed the bridge with demonstrators and refused to leave. Extinction Rebellion, also known as XR, took over four key sites in London during that timeâthe largest civil obedience demonstration in decades. It got everyone buzzing.
One of the founders of XR had watched a few of my media appearances where I spoke about climate change and stargazing. She liked that I relied on data in my talks, and asked me to join the XR Media and Messaging Team. I was catapulted from being a local participant to spokesperson for the whole organization.
My days were spent writing for the national press, feeding journalists quotes and information, and editing our newspaper, The Hourglass. The people I worked with had big hearts and good intentions. Some are still my friends.
But there were red flags.
At my first XR media training, I was instructed to cry on television. âPeople need to see crying mothers,â Jamie Kelsey-Fry, the trainer and longtime XR activist, told me. âThey need to be woken up to what they should really care about.â They asked if Iâd bring my children to climate marches for the same reason. The whole thing was a masterclass on how to manipulate emotions. We were instructed to bring everything back to the climate emergency and how politicians were failing us. Nothing about solutions or science.
