I want to join the navy as a hull tech, how long would i have to stay in the military?

The guy in recruiting office said i would get  $30,000 a year how much tax is taken off that?

Is it possible for me to save $20,000 a year in the military?

Do you get any time to your self while on the ship?

Thanks in advance.

Your recruiter would have been able to answer all of these questions. Firstly, taking the time to browse the forces.ca website would answer some of them. Also, using the search function on this website and Google can be quite handy.

The information is out there. You can't always rely on others to spoon feed you it.

As for the taxes, you can get a general idea of that with a few mathematical calculations. And saving money would all depend on what you do with your money, ect.

Good luck with your application.

A Private's salary ranges from $32,000 to $47,000 per year.

Assuming you live in Nova Scotia, Federal deductions would leave you with about $1,048 per pay. This is before CF deductions (Mess Dues, insurance, etc.).

Even limiting yourself to a diet of Mr. Noodles and no-name KD, you would have a difficult time saving $20,000 in your first year.

I thought the food was free on the ships?

I tried to search but they all say different things.

When the ship is not at sea, you do not live on the ship. You live at home and pay for food like everyone else.

I am willing to bet they say the same thing.
