This article discusses the successful Marine-Army assault on Falluja.

"Hit the other fellow, as quick as you can, and as hard as you can, where it hurts him most, when he ain't lookin'."

- Unrecorded British sergeant-major, (On the definition of strategy)

It seems to me that the Marines were well trained, well equipped, and well supported. They pushed the attacked and didn't stop till fallujah was broken. Enter the age of live surveillance (UAVs).

Speaking with a Marine "Gunny" in CA...

Me: So fallujah was a success as far as the Corps is concerned?

Him: You bet. It started with the jihadis telling the world that this would be the biggest showdown of the war, with the streets running red with US blood, that the entire remaining city was populated by fanatical insurgents armed to the teeth and ready to die.

Within 72 hours their leaders were fleeing the city dressed as women, and we are still finding caches of weapons that were never used.

I'd call that a success.
