Comparing the Regiments (PPCLI, RCR, and R22eR) and thier bases

I am researching the three Infantry regiments in the CAF because I am an applicant for infantry and I would like to be educated on the history, individual strengths and differences of each. I do not speak French so I was told that it is unlikely that I will be sent to the Royal 22nd Regiment however, I would still like some information.

I'm interested in hearing any information you may have on these regiments and any "need-to-knows" about each one.

Thanks in advance!

RCAC = Royal Canadian Armoured Corps.  Not infantry.

Thank you for catching that! RCR is what I should have put, I will change that now

Great! Thanks

Rather specific question, but out of curiosity.
First let me say that I will go where I am put.
My family and I will adapt and flourish.
I am excited to serve my country and to me part of service is doing what needs to be done.
This means whether it be Pet, Edm, Gag, or Nunavut to which I am sent, I will go.
That said, my question is,
If I go to RCR and get 2nd Bat. in Gagetown, which is mechanized infantry.
Does that mean I will not be able to do basic para?
Do mechanized infantry still get all of the training options listed on the Forces.CA website if offered?
"
    Basic Parachutist
    Parachute Jumpmaster
    Para Instructor
    Mountain Warfare
    Instructional Techniques
    First Aid Instructor
    Rappelmaster
    Unarmed Combat Instructor
Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defence Instructor
    Urban Operations
"
Or do they get restricted to only Mech. Infantry training opportunities and vice versa with Light Infantry?
I saw something about this earlier in the thread but it didn't quite clarify it for me. Not to mention I cannot find it again.

Thank you for your time and I appreciate any information you can give me.

technically any regiment could give you a shot at any type of training.  And there is nothing that says you will be staying into a mechanized one for the duration of you're career.  I personally know people who made 1st - 2ND and 3rd in Quebec city ( 22regiment ).

They did , Winter warfare / basic para / jungle warfare / urban / small arms / etc. ....

it all depends on what type of soldier you are and a lot has to do with timing.  You know the "good place, good time" type of stuff.

After DP1, does Infantry typically get posted within Canada or overseas? I always assumed that the whole purpose of Infantry was to directly engage the enemy in combat.

Your posting will be in Canada.  You may be deployed overseas, but your home base will be in Canada.

You're confusing it with being posted overseas (moving family, renting a place in another country, etc) which isn't common on a first tour, now that we don't have the bases in Germany.

Do you know where in Canada I'm likely to be posted? Would it be near where I live (Toronto)? Also, what are the chances of being deployed on subsequent tours into a combat zone? How long does one specific tour last?

Petawawa would likely be the closest Infantry base.

Im guessing you didn't do much research before applying?

The closest base with an infantry battalion to Toronto is CFB Petawawa which is about a 5 hour drive.

Your posting will depend on which Regiment you are assigned. I'm assuming you aren't a Francophone, so If you go PPCLI it is Edmonton and Shilo. The RCR are in Petawawa and Gagetown.

Right now, the Infantry do not have a combat mission to goto. Just rotations in Ukraine, Latvia, etc plus trips to Wainwright, and the local training area.  This can change at any time as the Government may decide to commit us elsewhere depending on what is going on in the world.

Tour length varies, but generally 6 months in length.

Also, the link Mario Mike posted regarding what happens after DP1 Infantry Reserve isn't relevant to you, so just bypass that.

I'm surprised this was not discussed 16 weeks ago during the Interview.

Interview: March 7, 2017
