Cell Phone Network to counter GPS Jamming

It's a bit of a misleading headline.

The article mentions a lot of the Russian local EW efforts aren't actually GPS spoofing - just jamming. Which is an issue for Cell networks as well and because of that they are able to use the cellular network to locate the source of that interference. So they are using some program to analyze the jamming and geolocate it using phones and towers - as opposed to high end EW systems.

Remember all GPS really does is basic triangulation from Satellites, it is a passive system that relies on detecting the incoming signal. The more satellites you can "see" the better your GPS receiver can make a location determination. Keep in mind that the US Military decrypted GPS way back to allow for commercial usage - and the Russians are using that to send spoofing signals to try to confuse GPS receivers, they have been doing this for quite some time to NATO members and interfering with Commercial Aviation. This effort is significantly distinct from the broad spectrum jamming done at the front by the RuAF.
