CDN/US Covid-related political discussion

Who knew that us old, white guys were so healthy. We seem to be the only people that don't need the shots.
If the paper has it right, it doesn’t say healthier “generic Canadians” don’t need shots, just that they don’t need as many.

Since this stuff tends to be based on actuarial type data of big groups, I’d bet money that at least some of the groups mentioned are, as a group, likelier to be in worse shape. I stand to be corrected by health professionals or statisticians telling me how, say, Indigenous folks are actually healthier and less vulnerable as a group, though.

On all sides, individuals will widely vary, so I’m also guessing docs/nurse practitioners/PAs seeing real people would be able to recommend more or less boosting based on what they see, no?

You are probably right. So why not just leave the advisory at the level of "contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice"?

Not so much as "healthy" as less un-healthy than others.

I'm in the 65+ group and now just treat it like the flu shot. I was thinking I was eligible for the RSV vaccine but was told by public health that I was not in the vulnerable group. When the nice nurse said I did not qualify it was sort of 'sorry?'.

Not a health care professional or statistician, but on-Reserve FN people, generally as a group, have a horrible diet, higher instances of diabetes, TB, and decent access to healthcare if they do contract something.

CIA apparently sent an email statement yesterday (25 Jan) about the whole COVID-Wuhan link. Can't find the email yet, but here's at least some of the text as posted by NPR's defence correspondent:

Based on this, here's the range of headlines coming out.
"CIA favors COVID lab leak theory"
"CIA says Covid-19 probably escaped Chinese lab but doesn’t rule out natural origin"

Also, this happened Friday:

For more nuance, attached is a summary of the then-existing int from 2019 (when Trump 1.0 was in) and a longer report from 2023 (when Biden was in).

Remember when speaking of the lab leak theory would have labeled you a racist?

I’m glad some are back to trusting institutions like the CIA again.
If NPR guy accurately quoted the email statement, that only seems to apply when the Agency is kinda-sorta-not-too-sure of what they want to prove, right?

I would trust the CIA far more than the current GoC. I would however trust CSIS.

Or whatever agency Putin and China have.

Trust is such a fickle word. What does that even mean in this context ?

That's a couple wild things they did. Then there is the Bay of Pigs, Gulf of Tonkin, and I'm sure they are connected Iraq has WMDs debacle.

You don't need pro google powers to find all the FUBAR things then CIA did.

Trust... Trust them how ?

The issue with the CIA is in its roots. Its a descendent of the OSS - from WW2. Active measures - aiding the French Resistance etc - was the thing in WW2.
It does have a history that's for sure.
