Warplanes at Pearson
Military jets from several countries landing in T.O.

The "...Swedish coast guard aircraft..." really have me worried.

Wow, when I saw the word "warplanes" I was thinking along the lines of Harriers or F-18s or something, not Hercs. Typical media sensationalism. I too am very worried about the presence of Swedish Coast Guard aircraft in Toronto ;)

Boy the MSM must be really sucking the ether to try and make a story out of this...

I think the Swedes fly a variant of the Dash-8 as a coast guard aircraft - the same small propeller plane Air Canada Jazz flies.

I suspect that plane was merely arriving for routine maintenance... hardly newsworthy...

Imagine the panic that will ensue when Mr Godfrey learns that we routinely land in small airports all over the country for unpublicized activities such as refuelling and eating lunch.

Department of national defence officials said foreign military flights must have permission from Foreign Affairs in Canada to land in Canada. Foreign Affairs officials refused to comment on the issue.

Maybe because it's a complete non-issue and they don't want to waste their time?

How does a C-130 "quietly" touch down anywhere???

In my limited experience "quiet" and "C-130" just don't fit together ;D

Wonder if these same journalists will notice the amount of aircraft heading to the Yukon soon for their annual Sourdough Airshow in Feb?

(gee what a concept, an airshow in the winter...Foothills Pipe Line's Yukon Sourdough Airshow
Welcome back to the 32nd showing of the Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous Air-Show. Due to the shows popularity, (the largest single event of the Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous) and all the "tall tales" from over 2500 "Honorary Sourdoughs"(Military personnel from previous years), the 2005 Sourdough Air show has become one of the largest civilian airshow displaying exclusively Military Aircraft. It is also one of the last "Free" Airshow in North America. Last year saw almost every type of aircraft in the Canadian inventory, both on static display and flying at the Whitehorse Airport. There were thirty plus Canadian and U.S. aircraft and one hundred and eighty military personnel, all here for the people of the Yukon and visitors alike, to see and meet personally. This year we will have on display most Canadian aircraft, and depending on World events, we are once again hopping to be able to show the USAF's C-17 Globemaster. We are also very fortunate to be able to host planes from the United States Air Force, the Alaska Air National Guard, the USN, and of course the Canadian Forces Air Force. We are still negotiating to have the USAF's famous A-10 Thunderbolt, the C-141 Starlifter, various U.S. Fighter Jets and at least 1 USN's P-3. We also hope to have two military bands to entertain the folks; the United States Air Force Band from Elmondorf AFB and the 4 Wing's Band from Cold Lake Alberta.

If you like airplanes, like the sight and sounds of jet aircraft flying low over the airport, have fantasies of flying a CF-18 or an A-10 "tank buster", or looking at the latest in transport planes, or maybe you would just like to meet some pilots and aircrew members; make a date to come out to the airport forthe flying and static displays on Saturday February 26th, and Sunday February 27th, from noon till 3:00pm.)http://www.yukonrendezvous.com/content.php?id=12

Here is the goat that is the "news hole" in a paper,
here is the goat being fed filling, but inconsequential, material.....

Update: Note the photo in the Sun story of the vicious-looking C-130J.  Then check out virtually the same photo at the site below; in fact the plane is just using its anti-missile defensive countermeasures.

And the planes mentioned are turboprops, not jets--but what's a Canadian journalist to know?

You'd think they'd be happy that these aircraft filed flight plans.

Just as thousands of other aircraft do each day. Apparently there may be something sinister about our CF Pilots (who have been known to land CC130s at ... egads... Pearson!!) and our flying Allied brethren stopping for a break and taking on fuel.

Good fearmongering once again, way to spin another story for the ill/un-informed Canadians out there. Congratulations to them.  ::)

Upperdate: Further research shows that the photo in the Sun is of a British C-130J (second at left). Spooky.

And I don't think the Sun knew it. There is a prize (only by acknowledgment) for the person who identifies the jape.

Since the prop only has four blades, it might just be this plane (third at left):

Everyone knows that the RAF are staging a very hush hush operation to re-take the Dominion. While our Forces are bogged down in Afghanistan, they have been quietly shipping in tons of Guinness and Steak & Kidney pies in preparation for the arrival of the advance party.

Now that they've been discovered, they will no doubt have to re-call Beckham & Posh, maybe scrap the plan for getting back the 13 colonies south of here as well...."Rotten Luck Reggie, bad form, oh well, back to the drawing board what?"

I'm heading for my bunker..........

They will be atacking with their dreaded WMD: "brussel sprouts"

whoa, whoa and friggin' whoa!  Just because a plane isn't a jet, a fighter or a bomber does NOT make it NOT a warplane.  Hercules are DEFINATELY warplanes, and you know why?  Because they are logistical, and logistics wins wars, NOT tactics.

An analogy as to how logistics leads to success:
Take some frat boy.  He's on the prowl.  He knows how to talk the talk, and walk the walk (aka: tactical acumen).  But, when the dance ends, and he says "Wanna go back to YOUR place", the answer is "yeah, right!"

Take some computer geek.  He's a bit shy around the ladies.  But, he has a car.  He has his own place.  He can groom himself to be somewhat presentable in public (eg: he's not a slob). And he has money: discretionary funds, as it were.  He is in much better stead to "succeed" than the pretty boy frat boy!

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how logisitics trumps tactics.

Oh thank god there's hope for me yet...  ;D
