Hello everyone.
I‘ve just been accepted into ROTP Nursing. I‘m very excited as it
has been a life-long dream of mine to serve as a member of the
Canadian Forces.
I was wondering if any of you could tell me what to expect at basic
training. I have reviewed all of the material that the Recruiting
Centre has provided but I realize that such material is hardly
comprehensive.
Thanks very much.

how did you get through with the recruit testing?
-Aptitude, Medical, Physical, and the Interview.
I wondering what did you have to do for each of these
areas personally to qualify. I am hoping to apply
for Artillery DEO very soon. Thank-you, JC

Hi,
Well, the Aptitude test was just a standard Aptitude test. The
Medical was just like an annual physical - checked everything out,
inlcuding eyesight and hearing. The standards for the physical
fitness test should be available from your local Recruiting Centre -
the numbers vary depending on your gender and age. There‘s a step
test to test your cardio-vascular fitness, then a certain number of
pushups and situps you have to do.
The interview was pretty much like any other job interview I had, but
with emphasis on why I wanted to join the Canadian Forces, why I
wanted to be a nurse, etc. Also, the officer conducting the
interview wanted to make sure I knew what I was getting myself into -
that I understood just what serving in the Canadian Forces meant.
All in all, I had a very pleasant recruiting experience. The hardest
part was the waiting from February to May to find out whether or not
I‘d been accepted! Of course, ‘hurry up and wait‘ is something I‘ll
have to get used to in the army! :
