Just received this email from a friend.....

This is a darn interesting picture and story even if you aren't into
fishing, but please show it to anyone you know that likes to fish.

This sturgeon is still alive, just worn out from the fight. They
turned him loose after the photo.

This Sturgeon was caught on the Red River just below locks at
Lockport Manitoba two weeks ago. It weighed out at over 1,000 lbs and
measured out at 11 ft.1 in. It was 56 in. around the girth and took over 6 and a
half hours, and 4 dozen beers, for the 4 guys taking turns at the reeling it
in.

Any Sturgeon OVER about five feet has to be released unharmed and
cannot be removed from the water.

They are brood / breeding stock and probably older than most of us.

Give a man a fish, he will eat for a day.

Teach a man to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.  ;D

And maybe wrestle a sturgeon.........

Sweet Sturgeon.....only caught small ones before.

Lockport if you go at the right time is an awesome place to fish for all ages.  A buddy and I caught and released 48 fish today.  Everyone around us was catching just as much, it was literally cast and in a minute or so bang and reel a fish in.

What were you catching?

Mostly Sauger, one Walleye and a few Goldeye.  I was talking to Troy and when he gets back next summer we are going up north for some fishing and you are coming along.

Owww, ouch....ok, that's enough pain.....OK....how far north....Lake St. George far, or much, much farther.....?

Umm we will see, somewhere in the area I suppose.  We were thinking of taking the slackers way out and allowing someone else do all the driving of the boat while we fish :)

Fishermen:

This fishy story has been floating around for years....Even the picture is the same!!
A few years ago this same fish was supposed to have been caught in Kincardine ON on Lake Huron. I guess it migrates from fishing hole to fishing hole being caught by various other fishermen.

Cheers,

Oh well, at least they picked an area where Sturgeon hang out, and I got a fishing trip out of it, so.......... what was your point?  ;D

No point at all, GAP. It's probably in Snopes along with a lot of other misconceptions. Enjoy your fishing trip....wish I was going along!!

I Guess I was just trying to debunk a rather dubious story that I had had inflicted on me years ago.

That is still one heck of a huge sturgeon, no matter where it was caught.....the Winnipeg River has had some monsters, but I don't know if anything that large ever got reeled in....

GAP:

IMHO I feel one has to be aware that maybe one is being fished in....er reeled in.

Jeez. Let it go. It's a fucking fish story, and not even true at that. Shouldn't you be shovelling snow or something by now ;)

Mess dinner is on 05 Dec 09.
