LONDON, (AFP) - British tourists have left the residents of one
charming Austrian village effing and blinding by constantly stealing
the signs for their oddly-named village.

While British visitors are finding it hilarious, the residents of
F---ing are failing to see the funny side, The Sunday Telegraph
newspaper reported.

Only one kind of crimimal ever stalks the sleepy 32-house village near
Salzburg on the German border -- cheeky British tourists armed with a
sense of humour and a screwdriver.

But the local authorities are hitting back and with the signs now set
in concrete, police chief Kommandant Schmidtberger is on the lookout.

"We will not stand for the F---ing signs being removed," the officer
told the broadsheet.

"It may be very amusing for you British, but F---ing is simply F---ing
to us. What is this big F---ing joke? It is puerile."

Local guide Andreas Behmueller said it was only the British that had a
fixation with F---ing.

"The Germans all want to see the Mozart house in Salzburg," he
explained.

"Every American seems to care only about 'The Sound of Music' (the 1965
film shot around Salzburg). The occasional Japanese wants to see
Hitler's birthplace in Braunau.

"But for the British, it's all about F---ing."

Guesthouse boss Augustina Lindlbauer described the village's
breathtaking lakes, forests and vistas.

"Yet still there is this obsession with F---ing," she said.

"Just this morning I had to tell an English lady who stopped by that
there were no F---ing postcards."

Been there last year. We only stayed in towns with odd names like Kalamazoo, Michigan, Forsythe, N.D, Butte, Montana(I called it Butt Montana but we did have a good stay there.

Finniest thing we did see, other than Climax, Michigan was a gas station called "Kum and Go" in Forsythe. We got a picture of it, but the picture is on my husband's non-working mac HD

Well, the 20 or so residents of Kandahar Saskatchewan, (near Quill Lake, between Yorkton and Saskatoon) are still wondering when the military is going to show up. There was all this hoopla about the CF going to Kandahar, but nobody showed up yet...

And there is a Climax in Sask, as well.

I would like imagine the face of someone if I went "I'm taking a little roadtrip down to Hornytown".

I know its not an odd name, but try going to the States and telling people you are from Mississauga.  One older gentleman went "Missis.....Chicago?".....but the common statement is "Mrs whatnow?".  Most have never even heard of Mississauga, considering that, population-wise, it is a fairly big city.

Welcome to Hornytown, population us... sorry couldn't resist that lame ass joke.

As for Mississauga I absolutely hated that place in grade 4.  Like every other student out there we had to do weekly spelling tests and my grade 4 teacher had the nasty habit of including words from the previous week which the majority of the class spelt incorrectly, and I swear for at least 6 weeks or so Mississauga showed up on the test.  I finally spelt it right in the last week he used it, so I'm wondering if he was doing it just for me or did everyone else have the same problem?

and a quick note, in New York State (I believe) you'll find the Village of Homer.

Mississauga: Ancient Indian word meaning place of strip malls and industrial parks to the west of the centre of the universe. ;D

Bengerville, NF

Population: 1 house, owned by MR. Benger. No joke, I have pictures to prove it. Dude has his own 'ville'.

Heart's Content, NF

Heart's Delight, NF

Cock Cove, NF

You forgot:  endless traffic jams, big box stores (strip malls are soooo 1990's :D), and cookie cutter homes.

Also the "city centre" is really Square One, which is kind of funny since it's a big giant mall.  It's also used as a location reference, for example, "I live 5 minutes south of Square One"..."ohhh, ok.  I know that area".
