'39 TO '41 BASIC TO STOKER TRAINING AND LIFE ON CORVETTE

I'm researching for a historical fiction novel. The main character is a Stoker serving in an early Corvette. I am looking for resources about the training for sailors from 39 to 41 from initial qualifications to being put aboard ship; any good info/stories on what the Stokers daily life aboard a Corvette would be like. What would the routine be, duties, etc?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
