RUMINT of Canada wanting more C-17's

The plans for a sim have been under development for a long, long time. It being on the government's procurement "wish list" doesn't mean we will be getting it anytime soon. Infrastructure projects like that are the first things to be put on hold when the cuts start, absolute best case scenario...

RUMINT of Canada wanting more C-17's

It would take a few years, but it's doable. After all we are managing to man 15 new Chinooks somehow without breaking the RCAF. Plus maybe it would finally justify getting a simulator in Trenton and maybe even starting up our own OTU. > Just like they said when the C-17s ran out of YFR the...

    The Defence Budget [superthread]

I couldn't disagree with you more ERC. The problems in the CF today are not because every MND and CDS has misinterpreted "The Great Stephen Harpers" grand vision for the CF...it's because we are a cash cow to fund his precious balanced budget, while at the same time promising not to cut troops...

RUMINT of Canada wanting more C-17's

I think a distinction needs to be made between what the CF has and a boneyard type facility. Most aircraft sent to the boneyard are stored in a way that they can be reactivated if required. What we have in Mountain View is just a storage facility for old, high time airframes that will stay there...

RUMINT of Canada wanting more C-17's

It's every five years and lasts a few months. It would be absolutely ludicrous to buy and then mothball a perfectly good jet, only to spend potentially tens of millions to bring it back into service to prevent a slight decrease in capability a small fraction of the time...I can't stress how...

RUMINT of Canada wanting more C-17's

So park a few +$200 million assets because we can't figure out how to stagger a couple months long maintenance check? (Which is staggered anyways since we didn't get all 4 at once). Even the RCAF isn't that incompetent... The remaining white tails are being snatched up pretty quickly (and not...

    Aircrew Selection Jan 17th-21st

Hamada, basically aircrew selection is an extra set of aptitude tests for pilot applicants. Pilot training is extremely expensive, so the point is to weed out those who wouldn't suceed as early as possible. If you pass the testing in Trenton, you go to Toronto for medical testing and your...

RUMINT of Canada wanting more C-17's

Yes, what you are talking about is called 'lines of tasking', and without posting specifics, more than one is dedicated to operational missions.

RUMINT of Canada wanting more C-17's

Not quite...Without getting too much into specifics, there is no such aircraft allocation, and it's not uncommon for the majority of the fleet to be operationally employed on any given day (YFR permitting).

RUMINT of Canada wanting more C-17's

The announced price is $415 million including life cycle costs. That's about on par with what the Austrlaians paid. http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/ottawa-to-buy-5th-c-17-aircraft-1.2155642

RUMINT of Canada wanting more C-17's

Like you say though, the 7.5 year extension is based on maintaining our current usage, a plan which surely wouldn't stand if we were to buy a 6th jet (and I'm doubtful will even stand for this one). There will never be a shortage of work for the C-17s.

Do you need to be Bilingual to beomce an Officer?

No, you don't need to be bilingual to join as an officer. Many officers do undergo second language training though, and some positions (especially senior ones) require bilingualism. Might I suggest the weekly recruiting thread on Reddit for future questions (save yourself being berated for...

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

They were long, then short, now people are telling me they are up a bit but still reasonable. I guarantee you it will change again by the time you get there. The real wait now is after flight training. PFT failure rates are all over the board (over the years I've seen everything from 0% to...

    Pilot - Height Restrictions

Ah, I thought for a second they had a new system up and running. Interesting though, I haven't heard of them doing it manually since the blue screen system came in. Essentially the same thing though, using your body dimensions to see what you'll fit in. A quick look at their website also...

    Pilot - Height Restrictions

No doubt those details would be greatly appreciated by those reading this forum. The article is definitely a few years old, but reflects what was used until recently (apparently). Did they really stop doing the computer analysis in front of a blue screen? What do they do now?

    Pilot - Height Restrictions

http://www.wingsmagazine.com/content/view/3614/38/ Here is an article about it. Point #2 specifically describes the method currently used for body measurement. Anecdotally, I know some very short and very tall pilots (like 6'6" tall), but again it's about dimensions, not just height.

    Pilot - Height Restrictions

Telling people to use the search function is all fine and good, but there comes a time when the info you refer them to is so old, they question it's validity. That post is over a decade old... To answer the question though, there is no published maximum height. They measure your body dimensions...

    CAF Pilots: Flying for Recreation

Don't forget about this: "the applicant has met the flight time requirements specified in subsection (4)" Military pilot training does not satisfy those requirements. You will be short solo time and solo cross country time for a PPL, and solo time, PIC time, night time and cross country time...

    CAF Pilots: Flying for Recreation

RCAF pilot don't hold a pilots license, all they have is a rating that allows them to fly military aircraft only. Their training and standards are totally independent from Transport Canada. That being said, Transport Canada does consider military pilot training to meet some of the requirements...
