    Military sterotypes?

I geuss that backs up PMedMoe who said, "And most of us aren't rough'."

    Military sterotypes?

I happened to read a shocking statistic (about sexual assault numbers) in an article on the CBC website (something about US army and marines are exhausted from two too long wars).  I'm sure Canada looks after its soldiers so that things like that don't happen.

    Military sterotypes?

Thanks for chiming in everyone.  I think the images on tv may have something to do with their narrow perception.  i wish I had said, "Oh, I can't wait to be harrassed," just for the shock value.  Alas, I did not have the "rough" factor in me to blurt it out.

    Military sterotypes?

Speaking of military stereotypes, what are your thoughts?  A civilian friend told me that the military is downright wrong for me because a) You need to be "rough" and,  b)  You'll be harrassed by lesbians.  Strangely, my mom also told me that soldiers are so "rough". She said, "Be careful...

    The "Nursing Officer" Merged Thread

Medcorps,  thank you once again for all your patience in answering my questions.  I'm sure your thorough explanations are helping other people as well. I fully respect your need to keep some secrets as they might jeorpordize lives.  Sorry, I don't know all the rules yet.

    Celibacy in the CF

I was told that once you become a CF member, you're never allowed to um...do it.  Is it true that every CF member is celibate?  Who do you get permission from if you need to do it in order to start a family?

    The "Nursing Officer" Merged Thread

:(  My thoughts to those 7 medics who saved others at the cost of their own health and life. What protection/plan is in place to protect the patients in the hospitals and the staff who work there?  Surely they can't be left completely unable to defend themselves!  eg. Do they carry rifles?  Are...

    The "Nursing Officer" Merged Thread

    5) Does the "enemy" typically know where the field hospitals and established coalition hospitals are?  If they know, do they try to bomb them to further devastate coalition forces? (Not sure if you can answer this one).

    4) Do you have any stats on NO casualties or deaths from Afghanistan since 2003 (or whenever Canada got involved)?  What about med tech casualties or deaths?

    The "Nursing Officer" Merged Thread

Medcorps,  you did a splendid job of explaining things in layman's terms.  Thank you.  A few more follow-up questions: 1)  Before I deploy then, I must have achieved all 6 steps to be functionally operational.  The earliest deployment would be in 3 years? 2) During the CPT phase, who is my...

What not to do - No excuse BMQ tips [Merged]

Is it as bad as they made it seem in Basic Up series on Youtube?  Also, how does a 100lb woman carry a 180-250lb man on her shoulders for the fireman lift?  Will he not crush her?  That to me seems scarier than the 13 km march.

Where are the Canadians on Youtube?

Youtube has endless videos posted re: combat medics (US). Why do you see and hear so little about Canadian med techs and nursing officers in Afghanistan?  It makes me believe they're not even there!  I'd love to find out what they're doing and how they're making a difference. I thought about...

    The "Nursing Officer" Merged Thread

Thank you, Medcorps, for your helpful answer.  1) Please clarify the meaning of "MOSID" and "operationally functional point."  2) Also, if you are in the regular force I understand that you are paid a monthly salary.  When you deploy they stop your salary? (Reference to "keen and volunteer")...

    The "Nursing Officer" Merged Thread

    1) Are the chances of getting a NO position higher if you're already an RN?  From reading the posts, the position seems very competitive. 2) I'm hearing mixed messages.  On one hand there is an over supply of nurses in the CF, but they are still hiring.  So, does the CF need nurses or not?  It...
