Canada Considering Sending Phalanx to Afghanistan

I don't think that the current releases from the NW Tech trade have anything to do with possible deployment to Afghanistan.  On both coasts there have been a number of positions opened at FMFs and technicians are taking advantage of their experience and applying.

Canada Considering Sending Phalanx to Afghanistan

Nothing confirmed to date, but talking to the CIWS LCMM indicates that this is not a total pipe dream, and that he is actively looking at all options.  As the navy is currently converting 1A mounts to 1B there are some available.  The process to purchase a weapons system would take longer than...

    Kingston class: Upgrading the MCDVs.

I doubt what they found was the L60 version currently used by the Navy.  This is another of the urban legends.  As for utilizing the CIWS 1B on a MCDV,  there is no location on an MCDV where you could safely mount one.  As well, unless the policy for regular force manning changes it won't...

    Kingston class: Upgrading the MCDVs.

The 40mm currently on Kingston class vessels is the BOFORs L60 version.  These are a WWII weapon that is very hard for the LCMM to support, both in spares and ammunition.  BOFOR's offered an upgrade/swap to us in 2002 to the L70 at $1 mil a mount.  The upgrade would not have had hydraulics, so...

To be or not to be Royal...that is the question.

Well said Gino. I don't think that "ROYAL" should offend anyone that has sworn their oath of allegiance.

    Progressing to the CF

I had looked at his profile prior to commenting, and my position stands.  Look at the original comment from bbbb and you will see that he is actually correct in his statement on cutbacks. WRT his comment on money best spent elsewhere, that's an opinion.  While I don't agree with it, I can't tell...

    Progressing to the CF

Well isn't this a fun place to be.  Relax Ex-Dragoon.  If you have information that will educate someone, impart it.  Threatening someone with a warning because they had a thought on a subject seems a bit abusive.  If you look into the closing of CFB Cornwallis you will find that it was closed...

Hey - We are hearing that Canada is/are DESTROYING over 67,000 FNC1 and FNC2s

The cartridge was not available to us.  When this was pushed through we were just post 9/11.  The restrictions on procuring small arms ammunition from the US was so prohibitive that we contracted a Canadian company to produce 10k rounds.  As there was a standing offer the process went a bit quicker.

Hey - We are hearing that Canada is/are DESTROYING over 67,000 FNC1 and FNC2s

The Navy needed a single shot line throwing gun.  Originally the project needed 181 weapons and I was allocated $540k for the entire project.  We went out to industry, and after all the proposals had been reviewed, we were short of funds by almost $300k.  That's when I went to Gary.  We looked...

Hey - We are hearing that Canada is/are DESTROYING over 67,000 FNC1 and FNC2s

I had to look for a quick replacement 4 years ago for the Navy's 44mag line throwing gun.  Gary offered me a 1000 of the warstock C1's as an option to look at.  While it was very tempting offer, the logistics for securing the weapons on board, developing a suitable blank, as well as teaching...

To be or not to be Royal...that is the question.

Here is the site for one of the teams responsible for the 100 yr celebration activities.  http://www.segunart.com/segunartpublicrelationsCNC1.htm Reading through all the posts on this subject brought to mind the fact that when you constantly refer to your service as "a job", getting a brand...

    Teaching Drill at NSCE

If you read the drill manual, you will find that for the purpose of teaching the movement "attention" from "at ease", there are two squads.  As stated before, if you follow the drill manual you can't go wrong.  The only way this lesson gets out of hand is if you let it.  Most drill periods I...

Army Mess dress in the Navy?

We wear the same mess kit as officers.  The exception to the pattern is that the gold stripe on the trouser may be worn by officers and CPO1's only.
