Hello I am in my last year of highschool and I am aiming to get my masters in physiotherapy, a big part of this decision was because I want to provide some sort of a service to the military and because I would not pass the medical tests (asthma and severe allergies) I am trying to find some way to work with the military however not actually be in the military.
Would I need to talk to a recruiter about this or someone else? I tried searching for different words about my question on this website and didn't find anything, so I am hoping it is okay to ask here. I live just under 2 kilometers from an army reserve in my less-than-large city however it's business hours are only three hours a week since it is part-time and the 3 hours and very late into the evening, so I am not sure if I should go there I do not know if someone there will be able to give me the answers I need. There is a full-time regular force recruiting center 62 kilometers away in Hamilton, and I am going there twice (maybe 3 times) in the next two weeks for medical appointments, so I am wondering if it would be better for me to visit them instead if I have time? Do I need to make an appointment? I do not know how long my surgery will take so I'm afraid if I make an appointment for, say, three pm I may not be discharged and fully functional until four pm (which is when they close) or around there and I really do not want to be rude or known as the girl who was late or slightly disoriented. So would it be rude to walk in and ask if anyone would be able to talk to me? How far ahead should I call if I want to make an appointment for a specific day? I want to try and time my hospital visits and going to ask them to be in the same day because Hamilton is more than a 40 minutes drive. I will be visiting Hamilton more often once I begin physiotherapy myself post-surgery but because that will not be for 2+ months from now I want to have an answer as soon as I can to prepare for University.
I really want to be able to provide something to our military whether it be here or Germany (first country to come to mind) or some other country but because I am not able to enlist so a physio/physical therapist seemed to be my best route since I know many of the men and women who come back can sometimes need physiotherapy after minor or major injuries, and veterans who have been back for however long. Any other suggestions you have to get involved with the military or other job positions you think the military may need someone for would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much and enjoy your weekend (or week, whenever you see this).
