Edit: I was unaware of the E-6 and higher for SNCO’s, the only NCO ranks I’ve known to do it are E-8/9. Then CW3 and O-4 and above, I didn’t even know O-3’s could.

Elizabeth (the retired O-6 we talked to yesterday) had mentioned that aspect (not getting into ranks beyond her ‘school family’ had been an 0-5, and she had remained friends with them for years, and they had attended her retirement two months ago from Active Duty.
