U.S. Annexing Canada (split fm Liberal Minority thread)

Looks like Hegseth is already turning into a petty little weasel and/or presidential bootlicker.

:(
To be fair, when someone retires from public office, should they keep their security clearance or their personal security detail?

Milley is a private citizen now. Why would he require a security clearance going forward??

And with the mandate to slash government spending where possible & really streamline various parts of the federal government where possible, it wouldn't surprise me if he pulls the security details of a few more folks also

Bill Clinton gets a secret service protection detail for life seeing as he is a former president. But should Hillary continue to get one now that she isn't holding a government post? Should she keep her security clearance?

Should Fauci have been able to keep his? If so, for how long?

It’s a US thing. Plus it gets them easier access to post career opportunities. But I also assume that some retirees get looped back into some things that may require their previous experience without the hassle of going through the process again. Security is another issue. I think that if you were in a position where decisions you make for the country that could put your life in danger after your career you should be afforded that. Hegsteth is going to make a lot of real enemies I think and he’s going to need that after he’s long gone. Someone will get him back for this…

Trump already has. Several in fact.

All removed already. Bolton too. And he had an actual assassination plot against him by Iran.

Interesting times.

Paul Wells interviewed AB Premier Smith - She laid out her reasonings pretty good and highlighted how vulnerable Eastern Canada is to being cut off from US energy. (Paul supports her arguments)

He then interviewed Amy Greenburg who’s one of the leading historians of the antebellum United States (1800-1860, the period leading up to the Civil War.)

After seeing the title of the pod, all I can envision is this:

Former First Lady Lady Bird Johnson had her personal Secret Service detail for 44 years.

Even former First Lady Bess Truman had a lifetime Secret Service detail. She lived to age 97.

You raise valid points, but it has been US policy, or at least customary, to provide that protection and those security clearances to high ranking former government employees.

Doing this as the first act of a new administration, before all the other things that need doing, is merely small minded revenge. Where will it stop? This is a bit "Emperor with no clothesish." No one will tell the leaders the truth anymore because any sign of an opposing opinion will be seen as disloyalty.

In the paraphrased words of Jon Stewart, "America, you're reaping what you sowed."

Especially if you're on the naughty list...

Not surprising considering the “erasing history because it makes us uncomfortable” moment with Milley’s portrait @ the Pentagon.

Also, Team POTUS47 has pulled Secret Sevice coverage from Pompeo & Bolton too — must mean the threat of Iranian shenanigans that led to the extra protection must be significantly less now, right?

That practice is super ridiculous.
Details can be scaled to the assessed threat. It could be as little as a bodyguard trained driver.

Don’t lose sight of how utterly unhinged some people out there are. The threat doesn’t need to make sense.

Pulling security details for partisan reasons is absolutely disgusting. If the legit threat is present due to past senior government service, protection should be provided. There’s nothing political about that. The amount can always be scaled up or scaled down.

Unfortunately we have the administration itself sticking the targets to certain people’s backs with the rhetoric they have employed and encouraged.
