Trying to ID several Toronto Scot soldiers from the tree carvings they made in England in 1940

I live in the south of England and recently, not far from my home, came across old beech trees bearing the carved names and regimental numbers of several Tor Scot soldiers. I'm trying to identify the individuals and learn as much as possible about them, but have thus far made little progress. If anyone can suggest possible research avenues, or offer any words of advice, I'd be most grateful.
