While I wait for my enrollment date, I have a few questions for those with experience in this field.

I understand that Logistics Officers (Log O) include both Logistics Sustainment Officers (LSO) and Logistics Finance Officers (LFO). Although my work background is in supply, I have a strong interest in finance, numbers, and mathematics. I will be enrolling in the Reserves, with BMOQ scheduled for this summer, followed by LOCC training in the summer of 2026.

I feel that working in the Reserves will allow me ample free time, and I have also been accepted into two undergraduate programs:
Accounting Technology (2 years)
Nursing (4 years)

My Questions:

1. Would studying Accounting Technology help ease my transition into the LFO side of the occupation? Or is this not necessary because of trainings provided at CAF?

2. I plan to transfer to the Regular Force after completing LOCC training. Is it possible to transition before that? What is the right time?

3. At 36, I want to ensure I make the right career decision. Any advice to avoid potential mistakes would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

For 3. Just remember that you are 36 and not 18. Don't compare yourself to the 18 years olds on your courses.

I appreciate the perspective. Are you suggesting that my experience will be an advantage, or are there specific challenges I should be aware of?

Both. Use your life experience to help rein in youthful excess and poor judgement. Realize that an 18 year old can thrash their body a lot more and bounce back quickly compared to a 36 year old. You only get one body and your clock has been running twice as long.

That makes sense. I will keep that in mind and train smart. Thanks for the advice!
