Despite not attending a Burns Night supper this evening, I'll celebrate the birth of the Scottish Bard by browsing through my slim volume of Burns' poetry, recite a few verses and settle into the pleasant task of sampling a dram or two (or more) of whisky.

My supper will be lacking the favoured fare, that "Great chieftain o' the puddin-race", but I'll make do with tatties and neeps accompanying some good sausage and black pudding that stand in for the haggis.

There'll probably be a few virtual Burns Night celebration such as this one from last year.

Good heavens - thanks for reminding me. I was wondering why I kept hearing tiny voices calling me from the back of the booze cupboard where my single malt languishes. Unfortunately no Drambuie. We Winnipeg Queen's Own Camerons were quite fond of Rusty Nails (the no ice variety).

I have a circa 1849 copy of the complete works of Burns. I got it at a thrift store for a dollar or two. The print is pretty small so a magnifier is a necessity.
