A little lesson in Civics not the Honda model
The PM is not responsible to the public anywhere but in Shawinigan. I
didn‘t vote for him in Sherwood Park, Alberta and neither did you in
Toronto. So, call me Alice if you want. You and I voted for our MPs
or voted against, whatever. The Party elected the Leader - for better
or for worse unlike the Brits which seem to have a better system where
the sitting MPs seem to have a direct say on who gets to be leader.
Perhaps you are thinking too much about the American system. Oh, no,
they don‘t vote for a President either but for some kind of deligate to
some kind of electoral college. Too heavy for me!
BTW, just to cool off, didja know that Joe Clark and Preston Manning
attended the same Poli Sci class in 2nd Year at the UofA in the
mid-sixties? It‘s true. A friend told me this a few days ago. He was
also a student in the class. Neither Clark nor Preston attended very
often, as they were, even then, BMOC in those days known as Big Men On
Campus. My friend had no memory of them ever debating each other or
making any contribution to class discussions which are common in PoliSci
courses. The Prof was well known to both my friend and I as a former
leader of a nowhere Alberta provincial party and a very heavy boozer but
a better prof drunk than most prof‘s sober.
