>What Ql level does a private in the reserve hold. Ql-3 is a reg
designation, is it not? I remember, BTT STT, and ITT. I also remember TQ
levels as a reg. force member.
Memory‘s hazy, but...
When I joined 1983, it was GMT-TQ1-TQ2-TQ3-TQ4.
For a short while around or after 1987? it became GMT-BTT-STT-ITT-ATT.
In 1989 or thereabouts it became QL2-QL3-QL4-QL5x or QL6x depending on trade.
Same stuff more or less, different name.
>How well will goretex hold up after weeks in the field with inadequate laundry
facilities
It should hold out OK. Cold water and a little soap, or just cold water, will
do.
>How many washings before it loses it heat signature hiding ability.
Not a great concern, since concealing heat signature for some time is better
than not at all. I don‘t know what the army is paying for the new kit, but
commercial goretex is not onerously more expensive than lesser fabrics.
Besides, where does a "less is OK" philosophy stop? Clothing? Rifles? Trucks?
Tanks?
>If the great Olive Drab color was so versatile then we would not use darker
colors
on the high points of our face to reduce shine
The valid point is that OD is the best base colour compromise over a multitude
of environments - forest, grassland, urban, desert. Versatile.
>Man if you think that the current boots are adequate then its you that has
stepped on your ****.
I too have no complaint about the old-style combat boots. I guess they must be
inadequate for the soft feet of those who have been raised in Nikes and never
walk anywhere once they have a driver‘s licence. I have a great-uncle who
thought a Trapper-Nelson pack wood and canvas, something like wearing an
ironing board with a bag strapped to it was perfectly adequate for hiking well
into his middle age. I suppose "adequate" is merely a measure of one‘s physical
resilience.
