Question about CEOTP and Time of Service

I did a search, but was unable to find anything relevant.

I recently visited a Career Counsellor to map out my next moves in the Service. What i'd like to get confirmation on is:

What is the length of service for an initial contract in the regular force? I was told the length was anywhere from 9-12 years for the first contract.

There are two potential scenarios that I am aiming for, the first being:
1. to do a CT sometime in the next little while into the CEOTP plan,
2. to do a CT shortly after returning from a tour in afghanistan (3-09), assuming all goes well.

first Variable Initial engagement is 3/4 years dependant upon the trade
CEOTP will do a TOS review with DMCARM (thats what I'm in the middle of right now) and assign as appropriate again trade dependant as some trades have longer than others to complete a degree (in my case it will likely take to me to pension time)
