Mod Squad - if you know a better place for this, pls move at your discretion....

I'm doing a bit of an open source survey on the recent SAM attack on a UK Herc, and was looking for a reasonably authoritative reference outlining how Blowpipes ended up in the hands of the muj in the "we're shooting at the Soviets" days.  For example, I found this pretty comprehensive piece on the USA and their Stinger legacy in AFG:

Kuperman, Alan J.  “The Stinger missile and U.S. intervention in Afghanistan,” Political Science Quarterly, summer 1999, Volume 114 No. 2, pg. 219, viewed at http://milnewstbay.pbwiki.com/f/PN19990922010002806.pdf .  (Kuperman 1999)

I've Googled myself out (all I could find is third- or fourth-hand references to documents either no longer online, or never the case), and hope someone here can help.  OPEN SOURCES ONLY, IDEALLY WITH ACTIVE URL/LINKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Open source Adobe .pdf files can be used as well.

Post, PM or e-mail to tony@milnews.ca - whichever is easiest.

Thanks TONS in advance!

I tried "blowpipe missiles afghanistan"  and got:

http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=blowpipe+missiles+afghanistan&meta=

Anything useful there?

I dont think you'll find anything else on-line, your best best are published materials.  I do recall reading a few books mentioning the subject, but will have to see if I can find the names of the books.

Milnews:
try page eight of (or 225) of JSTOR: The Stinger Missile and U.S. Intervention in Afghanistan
http://www.jstor.org/view/00323195/di015136/01p0416n/0

Should have all you need.
If you google "Stinger, Blowpipe, Afghnistan you will find some more relevant articles.

PM inbound with another search engine and 24 good results.

Already got this one (referenced in 1st message), but thanks TONS to 3rdH, GM and kincanucks and all others who offered other ways/places to look - will share any summary I manage to pull together.

Knew I came to the right place ;)

I'm late and this is not an on-line source, but Afghanistan The Bear Trap. by M. Yousaf has details on the employment of the Blowpipe by the mujahideen during the Afghan-Soviet War.  You should be able to find the book relatively easily.

http://www.amazon.com/Afghanistan-Bear-Trap-Defeat-Superpower/dp/0971170924

The author had been in the Pakistani Army and was in the ISI during the mid-years of the war.  He recounts that Blowpipes were indeed employed but that they weren't very happy with them.  He gives dates in 1985 and 1986 for their employment.  He states that they came from the UK through the CIA.
