Looking for advice on restoration/care

I've come into possession of my great granddads World War I medals and pins. I'm under the impression that these have spent most of the last century in an old jewelry box and I'd like to get them the TLC (restoration?) they require and perhaps store them in something of a more dignified manner. If anyone has advice on this it would be greatly appreciated.
