Going through my previous thread on the 203 and c79 made me realize that I have a few more questions and comments regarding the up and coming load carriage system. A few of the links show the real fine details, especially for the LBV. Here they are:

The LBV looks pretty good to go on screen. Really happy to see metal clips. The plastic ones on the 82 pattern were useless. Was really surprised to see that there were no larger pockets on the back of the CADPAT vest, like the ones you see on the current issue LBV overseas. The utility pouches dont look real big enough to handle all the larger necessities like rain gear, socks, bug juice, shell dressing, cam etc.... I guess thats where the small packs come in.

That brings me to my next question. How the **** do the small packs work with the new ruck and where does the valise go. Do the small packs magically turn into the ruck or what. Do you have to carry both ? Currently I have a CDN Peacekeeper patrol pack that I jam into my valise whenever I know I might be on a long patrol. Will it bee the same deal here. The new patrol pack looks to big to have to carry seperately. As for the valise, all I know is that its a compression vaccum sack that sucks extra air out. Havent heard of any improvments to actual sleeping gear but would like to see those microfibre ones that squish into the size of a bread loaf. Also Remember seeing in an old issue of the maple leaf stuff about a CADPAT poncho liner (US style), camelbak, and knee and elbow pads.

If anyone has any comments regarding the new load carriage stuff or anything else, would be happy to here it. Not expecting much though since this stuff will probably be the last of the CTS stuff to get issued.

PS This will hopefully quench the last of my burning desires to find out more about CTS. :cam:

I‘ve gotta say, for us troops in our Ilti (pretend Coyote‘s), the new LBV will be ideal and well liked. Looks alot more comfortable and less hassle than the current stringy tangled mess we call webbing! How many times have we pulled into a position and the observer jumps out and manages to get his webbing caught on the radio tray wing nuts and ends up hanging off the side of the Iltis. (not that I‘m speaking from personal experiance or anything... :o )
The new Ruk looks nice, should fit perfectly in the back of the Iltis! ;)

Ive seen you res armoured types :p driving around once. They had their rucks strapped to the "roll bar" and framing. Of course this wouldnt work with the canvas lids on. Must be nice to have a load carriage system with an engine and wheels :p

From what I know, the LBV should be underway, DND made a tender for over 53,000 of them from pac safety prod. at least 6 weeks ago. Spoke to someone at the co. and that‘s what they told me, (BTW it‘s refered to as the M-35 tac vest over there???) Don‘t like the fact it only carries 4 mags, but that‘s what the rocket scientists over at Gagetown specifically requested! The accessory pouches that are shown with the patrol pack can be attached to the LBV, for extra capacity, as well as the canteen/c9 pouches.

HEY FUS-The new Ruk looks nice, should fit perfectly in the back of the Iltis! It‘s suppossed to be worn on YOUR BACK!!!!( you can‘t be infantry)

Yeah Im Infantry and damn proud of it. !! :bullet: :cdn: :bullet:

JRMACDONALD I think you were refering to Sharpey.

Yeah, I‘m the Recce guy. But hey, I use my feet sometimes! ;)

All this kit is excellent. The only thing I noticed and don‘t like is the gas mask carrier fastening system. It gets really hard to open when wet or even worse, frozen. I think they should have used acco fasteners. And before anyone says it: if you can‘t open an acco fastener with your eyes closed, you‘re in the wrong profession!!! :cdn:

Looks like they‘re starting to receive the new LBV, in Afghanistan. I was reading the Calgary Herald today, and saw a pic of several troops wearing the new LBV. In time we should hear whats good/crap about it!
