There is a Canadian World War II memorial education centre opening in Jun 2003 at Courseulles-sur-Mer. I don‘t know exactly where it will be located but I think it will be similar to the one the Americans have at Utah.
This project is mainly being funded by Walmart and another large corporation out of Ont.
I think it is about time something like this was set up and am looking forward to seeing how it is coming this May.
Just thought I would pass on that there are ongoing projects to keep the memories alive of the sacrifices made.
Let‘s hope all our troops going to Afghanistan make it home alive and safe, Good luck boys and girls.

here is the link to the Juno Beach Museum home page.

Hats off to the big American retailer collecting money for this memorial. You can see information in everyone of their ads. And no I do not work for Wal-Mart :cdn: (I work for the competion). Wal-Mart :cdn: will probably raise more money than the Canadian Government will be donating. :(

"We asked Wal-Mart Canada to support this important project because of their record of championing causes that are important to Canadians," said Mr. Webb. "With their nationwide reach and fundraising force of 42,000 Canadians, Wal-Mart is the perfect partner to make The Juno Beach Centre a reality."
Wal-Mart Canada will launch a 15-month long fundraising campaign for The Juno Beach Centre beginning March 5, involving all 174 Wal-Mart stores across the country. Fundraising will begin with Wal-Mart‘s "Buy a Brick Campaign,"
where customers who make a one-dollar donation to The Juno Beach Centre will have their names posted inside their local store on a paper brick to celebrate their support.
Wal-Mart will also use its Canadian communication vehicles to profile The Juno Beach project. In particular, the project will be highlighted regularly over the next 16 months in Wal-Mart‘s national flyers, which are distributed
to more than 8 million households across Canada.
"To say that we are honoured to be part of this historical project is an understatement," said Mario Pilozzi, Chief Operating Officer of Wal-Mart
Canada. "The Canadians who served our great country during World War II made the freedoms we all enjoy today a reality."

Recently, Sheila Copps announced the government‘s plan to move HMCS Haida from Toronto to Hamilton Harbour at a cost of $5million. Why on earth has the government earmarked so little for a project such as the Juno Beach centre (approx. $245,000.00), while funding folly such as this? I, for one, intend to write Ms. Copps and the federal government to express my outrage. Join me?

I wonder if the Wal-Mart advertising finally got to our Government....
$1 Million in Federal Funding Announced for Juno Beach Centre

Ottawa – The Government of Canada will provide $1 million to the Juno Beach Centre Association to assist in the establishment of the Juno Beach Centre in Normandy, France.
This actually happened last May. :cdn:
