Answer is yes it was used.  Mostly by officers during Banzai charges and such. 

Swords were also used to behead captured PoWs when feeding or transporting them was too much of a problem, Makin Island Raid and Bataan Death March spring to immediate thought.

Yes it was.  & many other things . The sword was used mostly for Decapcatating the Enemy etc.

mostly the Officers had them .
