My Grandfather David Campbell Nisbit fought during World War 2 for the Canadians. He was in the Lake Superior Regiment(motor) currently the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment.I dont have a clue of how to find his service records or get his medals replaced.Any help at all could be useful.

Thank You Very Much

For his file, you need to get the application for military service information form. You can get this here:

This was answered like two days ago - see above.

Hello Toque.
Its not as easy as you may believe to get a copy of your grandfathers service record.
The first step will be to find out what his regimental number was.
Then, if he has passed away, you will have to provide proof of his death such as a Death Certificate or newspaper notice.
Even then, the '20 year rule' takes effect. What I mean by the '20 year rule' is this, if your grandfather has not been dead for 20 years then you will not receive a complete copy of his records. These will only be released after your grandfather has been dead for 20 years. How-ever, the records that they do release are VERY extensive. Listing such things as the Medals he would be intitled to, where he served and so forth.
All this must be requested under the Freedom of Information Act, which must be stated in the request.

If your Grandfather is still alive?
Then the only person that can obtain a copy of his service record is your Grandfather and no one else.

The address to write to for his service record is:
National Archives of Canada
Ottawa Ontario
K1A 0N3

For information on medals:
Veterans Affairs Canada
Honours and Awards
1411, 66 Slater Street
Ottawa Ontario
K1A 0P4

How do I know this you ask?
Because a few years ago I went looking for a copy of my fathers military record and thats how I had to do it.
Thats how I know.

If you need anymore information just let me know and I'll be glad to help out anyway I can.
