I was interested in joining the reserves as a Geo Tech, my local CER is hiring, but I am not clear on what reserve members would be doing on exercises and when at home.

I am taking a number of geomatic classes at school, so I have a good idea of the technologies and theories, and I like that I could apply some of what I learned in school.

There was an experiment to have Geo Techs in 33 CER, but it folded up.  Lack of money and equipment necessary to support a Geo section in the Reserves.  A common theme.

I was just with the 33 CER recruiter Monday and he talked about them still having Geo techs.

Could be wrong though.

My info is dated.  There is a Capt Smith there and some Geo Techs that I know of, but last I heard (dated information) was that they did not have the funding and equipment to continue.  They did have a nice set up, but updating their computers and data storage was their biggest problem at the time and I heard they were basically done.  It would be nice if they can be resurrected, but the CAF has bigger things on their plate.

You have gone to the right place, and if they do have a functioning Geo Section again, that is good news.

According to the forces.ca website and provided the information is current, 33 CER Ottawa is showing "Geomatics Technician (Now Hiring)".

If your interested, I'd suggest emailing them and asking if there are positions still available.  You never know until you ask!

The 33 CER recruiter out in that strange office looking building they occupy in Orleans said that they have their specialized troop which parades out there along with PAT platoon, and in this specialized troop they have geo-techs, bridging guys, and other specialized engineer types.

The P.Res TP for GEO TECH was supposed to have been done earlier this year and CFSME was going to run 2 serials this summer but that all fell through....
