PRO PATRIA 2007
THE REGIMENTAL JOURNAL OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN REGIMENT

1.        PRO PATRIA, the Regimental Journal of The RCR, is a year-end review of the preceding calendar year. The due date for articles to the undersigned for the 2007 issue of PRO PATRIA will be 25 January 2008.  In order to distribute PRO PATRIA before the summer tasking and posting season, all addressees are requested to respect this deadline.

2.        Electronic submission is preferred along with a selection of suggested photos scanned at 300 dpi or greater. Attribution of authors and photographers and the full captioning of photographs is required.  Please indicate where you feel that photos should be placed in the article, but do not embed the photos in the article document as this complicates preparation for publication. All submissions may be mailed to Regimental Headquarters, attention the Regimental Adjutant, or sent to “OLeary Capt MM@RHQ The RCR@London” (DIN) or oleary.m@forces.gc.ca (internet).

BATTALION ARTICLES

3.        Articles are required from each of the Battalions to cover the period from January to December 2007.  Significant achievements of unit personnel should be highlighted including naming the winners of major unit honours or competitions. In the case of changes of COs and RSMs during the year, copies of the official photos will be required.

EXTRA-REGIMENTALLY EMPLOYED (ERE) PERSONNEL

4.        Articles from members of the Regiment on ERE may fall under two classes of submissions.  Individuals are always encouraged to submit articles on stories from individual postings or experiences that may be out of the ordinary or of special interest to others in the Regimental family.  Also, articles from groups of ERE personnel such as the headquarters staffs, training establishments and deployed personnel are desired.  Regimental Mentors or their designates are encouraged to submit articles on ERE gatherings and activities within their geographical areas.

THE RCR ASSOCIATION

5.        Articles from each of our Association Branches are solicited.  Major activities, current active numbers and achievements of members over the past year are noteworthy for inclusion in PRO PATRIA.  In some cases Association Branches and ERE from the same geographical location may wish to send a joint submission.

ALLIED REGIMENTS

6.        Allied Regiments are requested to submit articles giving highlights of activities and significant events over the calendar year 2007 along with related photographs.

AFFILIATED CADET CORPS

7.                  It is desirable to have at minimum a photo and short article from each of our Affiliated Cadet Corps for the PRO PATRIA. Battalions exercising the Regimental affiliation with individual Corps are requested to encourage and assist those Cadet Corps to submit articles.

INDIVIDUAL SUBMISSIONS

8.                  All members of the Regimental family are invited to submit articles and photographs for PRO PATRIA 2007.  Submitted items will be selected for publication dependent on space available.  Items not selected for PRO PATRIA 2007 may be published on the regimental website at TheRCR.ca.  Submissions may cover events of regimental interest in 2007, or from any period in the Regiment’s history.

Regimental Headquarters, The RCR, is in the editing stage of assembling the regimental journal; Pro Patria 2007.  There is a continuing need to acquire good photos of Royal Canadians on the job (i.e., no parades, groups, handshakes, etc.) during 2007 for the journal.  Photos may be submitted to RHQ by any member of the regimental family.

Photos should be high resolution to enable printing in B&W or colour.  Accompanying info should include photographer's rank, name and unit, as well as a descriptive caption (who, what, when, where).

Submission of photos implies confirmation by submitter that images are copyright free and can be used for regimental publications.

Photos and accompanying information can be sent to the Regimental Adjutant at regt.adjt@gmail.com.
