CFB TRENTON - A former Canadian forces master corporal at CFB Trenton will remain in custody until his sentencing this fall after pleading guilty to a string of sex and incest charges in a Belleville, Ont., court Wednesday.

The man can't be named because of a court-ordered publication ban that restricts the media from publishing any information that could identify the teenage victim — his daughter.

The shocking admission come as the case of Col. Russell Williams, the former commander of the same base, continues to move through the courts.

The Quinte West, Ont., man was ushered into the courtroom by two guards Wednesday.

The 36-year-old pleaded guilty to one count each of incest, sexual assault, sexual interference, possession of child pornography, production of child pornography and the careless use and storage of a weapon.

The man was apparently facing further charges, but Crown attorney Laurie Nichols said a number of them were dropped.

“He was admitting culpability to the other offences,” Nichols said. “He only pled guilty to six offences.”

Nichols also asked that a sexual offender's assessment be conducted on the man to determine if he poses any long-term risk of recommitting similar acts.

She also requested a pre-sentence report.

Court heard Wednesday the man was charged in autumn 2009 after his 14-year-old daughter told a friend that her father was sexually assaulting her.

Nichols said the father had also sexually abused his daughter before being deployed to Afghanistan in the 2008.

The girls said her father had sexual contact with her at least 10 times leading up to his arrest in October 2009. He also took photographs of some of the sexual acts.

Investigators discovered 1,700 images of child pornography on the computer at the residence, some involving his daughter.

Some of the pictures showed children carrying out various sexual acts.

Court heard that police also found “several weapons and a box ammunition,” which included three long guns.

No specific date has been set for sentencing.

Yep it's gonna be a nice PR boost for anti-military folks.

That being said......thank god this clown was arrested and hopefully the key is tossed

Perfect!!! Just what was needed, things were starting to die down with the Col. More time will be spent explaining to people that we (the Canadian Forces) are a cross section of Canadian society. I told some one that once and they were quite surprised. They said the hadn't thought of it that way.

Yes we are a cross section of Canadian society, it just seems lately that more bad apples have been making it thru the ethos grinder!
Another sad PR day :-\

Boy, Belleville is sure getting it's share of notoriety lately.....

As for the story...the CF is, like  BYT Driver said, a cross section of Canadian society......

.......and still only a small fraction of the craziness coming out of Belleville.

This is a sad affair indeed. Lets hope that now this person's daughter receives the appropriate love, support and most importantly psychological counselling to help her cope and get on with her life.

Also here's to hoping that the person who did this is sent away for long enough to also receive ffective treatment and have a chance to think long, long, long and hard about what's got them rotting in a jail cell.

This does not reflect poorly on the CF. This is all on the individual who commited these offences, who just happens to wear the uniform of the Canadian Forces. The fact that some weapons and ammunition were found in the residence of this guy is not only irrelevant but misleading in the sense that implies that it should be no surprise that weapons or ammo was found.

Now, if the bad guy was busting caps at the cops and there was a running gun battle, or he was holed up in his house holding the police at bay, then it would be relevant enough to print.

None of this matters really, only that there was a little girl who was victimized by the one person in her world who should have been willing to kill anyone or anything, in order to protect her. I wish for her speedy healing and a good life, despite what she's had to deal with.

Well said, couldn't agree more.

I was just  thinking media sensationalism when I reread the article.."FORMER Master Corporal of the Canadian Forces".
And as a present Scout Leader, this term really gets my goat.."FORMER Scout Leader accused of child offences."
It tears me up when the Media go out on a limb to make the Forces...and Scouting...look like bunch of child molesters.
As a cross section of society, it's hard to weed out these people.

my  :2c:

In some corners it won't matter that the CF is a cross section of society, or that this criminal (alleged) is a  former CF member or whatever.
To some, we are nothing but baby killers, serial murderers etc...sad but thats the way it is.

The vast majority of Canadians can see through that crap.

Former Canadian Forces corporal sentenced for incest
By QMI Agency
07 Sept 2010

BELLEVILLE, Ont. - A Canadian Forces corporal was sentenced to six years in prison for a string of sex and incest related offences in a Belleville, Ont., court Tuesday.

The man can't be named because of a court-ordered publication ban which restricts publishing any information that could identify the victim. He was sentenced by Judge Stephen Hunter.

The Quinte West man, who was a master corporal at CFB Trenton before his arrest last fall, will serve just over four years of his sentence in the federal penitentiary after he received two-for-one credit for the 11 months he spent in jail.

The man pleaded guilty in July to one count each of incest, sexual assault, sexual interference, possession of child pornography, production of child pornography and the careless use and storage of a weapon.

Hunter also slapped the accused with several conditions that will commence once he is released. Those included a 10-year weapons prohibition, along with a 10-year ban from attending any public place such as parks or playgrounds where children under the age of 16 might reasonably be. The accused will also be listed on the sexual offenders registry for 20 years.

Before issuing his ruling, Hunter said he wanted to apply a balanced sentenced that addressed society's need to condemn the accused for his wrongdoing while leaving the door open for proper rehabilitation.

He added that both the accused and the victim have yet to grasp the complete impact of the tragic ordeal on their lives.

“Both of you need that insight to move forward,” he said.

In her victim impact statement, the victim expressed some desire to re-establish a relationship with the man.

Hunter said he didn't intend to “dissuade her from wanting to reconcile ... at some point,” but recommended she undergo extensive counselling before that is allowed.

“She has been the victim of a horrific and callous sexual assault,” he said.

Hunter called the case “perplexing” mentioning that, from all accounts, the accused was a man who served his country “in environments that were less than friendly.”

Hunter said it wasn't surprising the accused suffered from post-dramatic stress disorder. He was also at one point taking medication with adverse side effects, such as sexually-oriented dreams, the court heard.

“The court struggles to understand what brought (the accused) to this place and time in his life,” Hunter said.

Hunter added that girl stated in her victim impact statement that the accused “wasn't the same (man) who left,” for Afghanistan and went on to chide the accused for undermining the victim's trust for his own purposes.

“You may be sick and ill but you knew what you were doing, you knew who you were doing it to and continued to do that,” he said.

The sexual offender's assessment done on the accused concluded he accepted responsibility and was remorseful. It also established he didn't poses a high risk of recommitting similar acts and was open to receiving treatment. Hunter said the man's early guilty plea also reduced the suffering for everyone.

Court heard the man was charged last fall after the victim told a friend she was sexually assault. The victim also stated the accused had sexual contact with her at least 10 times leading up to his arrest in October 2009 and that he took photographs of some of the sexual acts.

In addition to sexually explicit images of his victim, investigators discovered about 1,800 images of child pornography on computers, some of the pictures showing children carrying out various sexual acts. Police also found several weapons and ammunition, including three long guns. The guns have been confiscated.

Yeah some really "interesting"  ::) comments there. BTW is the use of paragraphs frowned on in Bellville?
