just wondering what the 2 weeks at the basic driving course in Borden is all about. Does it just give you a CF drivers license, like the class 5 we have in BC or do they let us drive big rigs etc...? I‘m going for engineering so is it trade specific or do all CF recruits have to take this course?

The two weeks in Borden, will be spent driving the Iltis(basically a jeep), and the MLVW (a truck with two axles.) If you‘ve already got a drivers license, it should be pretty easy for you. :)

OH MY GOD YOU MEAN THE MLVWs have not only lost their wheels, but their third axle too?

What a crappy deal!

I did my course in the late eighties (BDT) and we had people stay behind because they did not master the art of driving a standard.(ours were station wagons) Some people even missed there QL3's (FF, Veh Tech, Lineman etc)including remusters to get qual'ed.
The inspections were parallel to Cornwallis and you do not need a civilian dvr's license to operate a DND vehicle.

Bottom Line-Learn how to drive a stick and the course will be a breeze. Stay out of the clubs til the weekend.

Dude, you just bumped a four year old thread.  The original poster is probably a corporal by now!

MD:

Maybe, he is. But maybe it will help someone else.

Time to clean up the threads??

or the guy is still on Course.

in borden you train on LSVW's light support vehicle wheeled. im about to take my course in march. i hear its pretty easy.

Hey Guys

Quick question, Do MP's do BDT? Or something different?

Thanks, D-C

Up to a couple of years ago i would yes they did. What they are doing now I am not sure. Anyone who had a DND 404 prior to becoming a MP, did not require to take a BDT @ CFSAL Tn Coy
