Officers of the 19th "Lincoln" Regiment doing duty with the Welland Canal Force in late August 1914 had this puzzle to sort out:-
"A soldier at Lock 17 reported that someone had shot at him and he had returned fire. On investigation, though, the officers doubted his story. They were puzzled as to “how the bullet [had] went through his helmet without perforating his head."
