Is the CCG RHIOT (Rigid Hull Inflatable Operators Training) course  recognized within the Forces or is it just another cool thing to have to dazzle CFRC with when rejoining.

Dazzled like Liberace on a rainbow.

Seriously though, it's good experience, but it doesn't qualify you to do anything, if you end up in a trade where you need to know how to handle a RHIB, you'll be trained again on how to handle a RHIB.

You may be able to ask for a PLAR for that course. I know that the EDF out in Comox take that course to qualify them on the RHIBs, and I would even go so far as to say that it might have a CF course code. I would give it a try anyways - the worst that could happen would be for the PLAR to be denied. Depending on which trade you're applying for, that may make a difference.

Can't speak for how DND views it, but is required for CCG ops and it's the best 5 days you have. Did mine in February (in the 90's) in Zodiac Mk 5's, big honking surf and rollers there was. The guys teaching back then were a tad crazy and I had enough airtime in the Mk 5 to qualify for a set of wings.

Another great course which you likely can't apply for is the USCG Self-righting lifeboat course.

Thanks for the reply's, and looks like the PLAR will be the way to go. Not that an Army Combat Arms Officer will likely get to play with RHIBs, at least I get to play with  them with RCMSAR right now.

We did some helicopter training with the USCG and the MH-65 talk about fun ;D
