Canadian Chief of Defence meets CJCSC
ISLAMABAD Jan 26 (APP): Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Canada General Walters J Natynczyk
on Monday called on General Tariq Majid, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC)
at Joint Staff Headquarters Chaklala and exchanged views on the regional security
environment and matters related to bilateral defence cooperation.
General Walters is on his first visit to Pakistan to obtain first hand knowledge of the evolving
regional security situation and to ascertain measures for enhancing mutually beneficial
cooperation between the Armed Forces of Pakistan and Canada.
Acknowledging Pakistan’s invaluable role in combating terrorism and violent extremism, the
Canadian CDS endorsed the need for a comprehensive regional approach and a focused
effort to win hearts and minds to eradicate militancy trends besides mobilisation of
international support to assist Pakistan in meeting the security challenges.
General Tariq appreciated the contributions rendered by the Canadian armed forces in the
efforts to stabilize Afghanistan and reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to continue working with
international partners for restoring peace in the region.
Earlier, on arrival at Joint Staff Headquarters, a smartly turned out contingent presented
guard of honour to the dignitary.
