Canada/US Border Integrity Thread

Anyone know the last time NORAD and our min commitments/requirements in terms of providing X or Y resources/equipment was updated/reviewed?
What are the chances of The Donald saying, times have changed, if you want NORAD to continue then you need X amount of fighters available for defence, Y amount of long range patrol planes, Z amount of refueling planes and so on and so on.
And that is how we are ‘forced’ to increase our capabilities.
If we don’t, then no more NORAD.

This can be potentially very bad for us. If it comes out that the Officer was killed by someone transporting illegal migrants who had crossed into the US, Trump will definitely use this against us as another sign of the lack of enforcement on the US-Canada border.

U.S. Border Patrol agent killed in Vermont near Canada-U.S. border, say authorities

The National Post has more info on the shooting:

Total speculation on my part but individual in the pic, the women, looks of Afghan or Turkish origin.
Interesting that they have not yet released the name of the German citizen.

Not really. Maybe waiting for NOK notification in Germany to be completed first?
Possible.
German newspapers don’t list a name as well.
Could be that the Germans are trying to establish if the individual is legit.
As for the woman carrying a Washington state drivers license, reading that shes
Been shot, is in hospital and is said to be a US citizen.
The car involved was a Prius from the pics.

Chances are zero. If the US says no more NORAD, then they lose our feed of surveillance in their system and the next line of defense for them is on their Northern border, which gives them a lot less time to react to anything. They can't accept such a short notice.

I doubt that you'll get rid of NORAD that easily. The US would just take it over 100%. If there is an air invasion from up there, the US would much rather it take place over Nunivat than North Dakota.

Tip o' the Cap to OGBD. I just read your response after I posted.

Someone should be asking Trump how this got here and how it made it all the way through the continental US.

Spitballing but maybe it was done by design to see where it goes and who it goes to. Looks like they knew it was coming so maybe some good intelligence work?

It's almost like this government will do anything it can to avoid having CBSA Border Services Officers patrol the border.

Canada governments will do anything to avoid paying for security related issues, CBSA, CAF, etc. Forking over unlimited cash for socialism is the name of the game in Canada. I'm glad we finally have a US president to call this country out.

I think Haggis’ point is there seems to be a lot of money and kit being thrown at different agencies, except for the one actually tasked with protecting the border.

Really?

You can see the breakdown here. CBSA is getting the 2nd biggest amount of that pot from what I can see.

Don’t forget, the C comes before the B…

For an agency with “border” in its name, they aren’t allowed to patrol the border away from the port of entry.
