We the people in uniform help defend our country.  Our Athletes defend and have defended our Honour.  Bravo Zulu to all our Canadian Athletes.    :salute:

I am so proud to be Canadian right now!

Awesome vibes here in Vancouver, kids and parents playing hockey on small streets, everyone cheering in pubs and cars honking all over the place with big flags.

:cdn: rocks ! A lot of  everyone.

Great day to be Canadian indeed! A couple of us stopped for coffee on the way home from BMQ today, and were saluted by some hose head wearing a flag for a cape and his buddy. Everyone is just stoked over here in Victoria too.  I hope this high lasts a while, we need some good vibes to be spread around.

A big, BIG THANKYOU to CTV & Rogers.....The coverage on multiple channels was fantastic.  If you were not interested in one thing , switch channels and away you go......

They set a new standard, and you will see, whomever bids next time around having to meet or exceed this coverage.

Are the Mounties recruiting hot babes? I mean the closing ceremony.....mini tunics >:D

Funny I was wondering the same thing Silverback....

Any last vestiges of respect the Force had, has now been completely destroyed!

Great hockey game though.

Here if you wanted live coverage, you had to pay $170 ($10 a day) on pay TV, so what we saw was taped because of the time change. Channel 9 had the rights for it here in Australia

Needless to say I did not watch any of it.

Don't even know where to begin with my praise of those Olympic games!!!

They were awesome.

And WOW what a hockey game!!!  :cdn:

I liked the footage of CF members watching the game in Khandahar and the signage one woman was holding:

  "Canada and USA
    Brothers-in Arms
    Not on the Ice"

I live in a suburb outside of Vancouver with a small-town feeling. The streets erupted after Canada won the hockey game. People carrying flags and cheering everywhere. Cars were backed up down the main street with horns constantly honking in celebration. It was a spontaneous display of Canadian pride like I've never seen before.

I happened to walk by the cenotaph as this was happening and glanced over the names on there. I admit I had a tear in my eye. Couldn't help it with all the flags around.

This may be sentimental but I think they would be proud if they could have seen the looks on peoples' faces today and the streets awash in Maple Leafs.

Since we are retired, we watched all of the games (for the first time) on the four NBC channels as we are in TX. Talking to other Canadians around, we all agree NBC did Canada proud. All the hosts went on about Canada, the games, our participants, our achievements.  Sure NBC highlighted US athletes, but they also showed when Canadians won an event, even when there was no US participant. Every night, Mary Carillo, did a 5/6 minute segment on Canada such as Polar Bears in Churchill, sled dogs in northern Manitoba, logging in BC, RCMP Academy in Regina. etc. NBC had Canadian SME's for several sports. Very little ragging on about the US. Lots of positive Canada in every aspect, all day, every day.

NBC's website was up to date to the minute. CTV and  (same ownership) Sympatico were hours late with results. The video never worked, not once.

Two other February one hour programs on the travel channel that are worth millions of good PR for Canada, and Vancouver are:

http://www.travelchannel.com/TV_Shows/Samantha_Brown/Episodes_Travel_Guides/Episode_Vancouver
Samantha Brown's Guide to Vancouver

http://www.travelchannel.com/TV_Shows/Anthony_Bourdain/Episodes_Travel_Guides/Episode_Vancouver
Anthony Bourdain's Guide to  Vancouver

Both shows were fantastic.

Agreed re: NBC. I was delighted, here in Dallas, with the coverage of Canada, Canadians and, especially, Canadian athletes - much, much better than I expected and, arguably, better that Canada deserved given the "own the podium" hype. One might not have blamed Americans had they gloated a lot, especially during the first week, and used Canadian failures to highlight American successes; but they did not. Good neighbours.

I get mix and diverse news about the Olympics. From Yay! Canada won and totally awesome! to Boo! Stolen Native Land!

I support and agree with both. *shrugs*

I was surprised they did a comic relief and spoof about Canadian stuff. Was pretty funny, although I didn't really like the "We're Sorry and I Dream Big" skits that happened.. Took away from my "Vegas" RCMP women and the cool show they did. Also the concert part was pretty decent... Thinking that was the first time our PM went to see Nickleback and Simple Plan.

I'm also glad the CEO of the IOC said a big thanks to the men and women in uniform from all over the country for protecting our lovely visitors and athletes.  :salute: All I can say is good job to everyone who stepped up to the challenge. And good job to our athletes for bring a new Olympic record! Most golds ever won at the winter games and also most golds won for a host country at the winter games!!!

Proud to be a CANADIAN!

I watched some of the NBC coverage too; their coverage of Canada was humbling; contained honest and deserved criticism of our Olympics (and of us crazy Canucks Iceholes) but even these were delivered in a gentle neigbourly chiding manner.

(I like being an ICEHOLE! LOL! )

Tom Brokaw's Love Letter to Canada (unfortunately it's no longer available in Canada due to copyright claims) was excellent.

It was available at the link below which discusses Brokaw's beautifully executed and highly flattering historical survey of Canada. Included at the link is a video tribute to America that features a speech by the late Gordon Sinclair.

Tom Brockaw's Love Letter to Canada

I hope we keep the Own the Podium athlete program going but change the name.  I'd rather it be called, We Believe or maybe Canada Believes ...  or something like that.

Edit to ADD: found Tom Brokaw's video referred to above on Youtube: Tom Brockaw Explains Canada to Americans

ADD: Excellence in security may not be getting a lot of media attention but I'm sure Canadians are thankful for the discreet work of those involved in providing security and service to these Olympic Games--hats off to you--you're part of that success.
