Can anyone tell me what vehicles are listed in AFV Recognition, levels 1, 2 and 3 or any place I can look for this info.?  I have found plenty of sights, but want it to be more specific to the levels I will be tested on.
Thanks

HI once again.
I have the level 2, but looked all through the din, but could not find AFV recognition anywhere.  Either I am looking in wrong spot or whatever, I don't have access but once a week, if that.  I just want to know what vehicles are listed on these levels, and I will look them up on other sites on the internet.
Thanks

If you are such a keener, find someone in your unit and create your own list of AFV's that you should study.  You can not go wrong there, as you will probably need to know them in the next level, if not this one.  Concentrate on US, Russian/Soviet, UK, French, and German AFV's and you can not do wrong.

Then when you start your next Level you will have the headstart that you want.

DONE

If you can get on the DIN you can link straight on to Janes.  I'll post the link when I get to work tomorrow if you like.

Unfortunately, it is Password protected.  Without a password you will only become frustrated.  Go to some of the other sites, such as FAS, or just type in your AFV type and search in Google.

We can not pass SECURE information over this site.

Roger that.  The password is avail on the DIN.  Search Janes from the DIN National home page and you shouldn't have a problem finding it.

If it's not considered a security violation, how do Soldiers go about training for AFV recognition? I know it's an important pat of Intelligence Operator training, and I was interested in writing some software to help train myself, purely out of personal interest.

Is it just rote memorization, or is there some other technique(s) involved?

Seriously, it is practice, practice, practice.  If you have the luxury, as some have on this site, to actually see the vehicles in real life, it does help.

Start slow.  Start with vehicles that you know and work with on a regular basis.  After that, add those vehicles/AC/Ships that you may become familiar with (used by Allied Forces).  Then as you are doing all that, research the "Signature" vehicles of the (potential) Enemy.  Research.  Memorize.

That is about it.  Practice, Research, Memorize, repeat often.

I might add that these skills are most highly developed in the people who actually deal with these vehicles (Land, Sea and Air).  The Cbt Arms of the Army, Air Force and Navy are the ones who pass on what they observe to higher HQs where others (who must also know these skills) will analyse what they have facing them.

That is why Armour soldiers, and Infantry Recce soldiers, are usually very good at the vehicles in Land and Air Recognition, and some Naval vehicles.  Air personnel have for the most part concetrated on Air and Land, then Naval vehicles.  Naval pers have fairly well concentrated on Naval and Naval Air vehicles.  They are all the "sensors" who detect the enemy.

Other Trades for the most part pay little attention to AFV Recognition, Land, Sea or Air.  A small point that is taken into consideration by the Int Branch.

Just out of curiosity, I know at my former home there was a sub-unit called "Training Resources" who's job it was to maintain the PAM library, training aides, and generally be the go-to guys for supporting course materials.

As a Pte I've strolled into Training Resources and asked to borrow the AFV training CDs lvl 1, 2, and 3.  I signed for it on the spot, and studied my little heart out only to get the Recce CRSE shitcanned due to lack of instructors... but thats besides the point...

Having only ever been a member of one unit, I always just assumed that the rest of the army units had their own equivalent Training Resources. Is this not the case?

Most units have some type of Training Resources/Pam library.  How well they are equipped is a case by case situation.  Before we had access to the DWAN we went to the Pam library for everything now most people download everything just prior to a course so it is the most up to date and just see the library for bulk photocopying.
