"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

I have a question for pilots that have done or are doing OJT – I’m wondering how conducive the life is to keeping a steady place of residence within the city you are doing your OJT. Or do you bounce around enough on the various courses that a yearly lease on an apartment is not really practical...

    2010 Airshow Season Thread

Just wanted to give a big thanks to 435 Squadron for not one but two fly-by's over Winnipeg Stadium last night for the Bomber game! I was in the upper deck and I got a nice up and close look at the Herc!

ArmyVern and Majones - thanks for the info! I think I will definitely try and brush up over the summer. Beech Boy - Congrats on the Pilot offer! - I'll see you in St Jean (I'm going DEO Pilot as well).

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

On that note, how and when are your French skills assessed when determining if you need to go to SLT? I ask because I used to be pretty decent with French (I took French immersion), however, my skills have definitely gotten rusty over the years since then (10 years ago!). I’m scheduled for BMOQ...

Zero Pilots Being Hired in 2009?

Well I was just contacted this week by the Captain that is handling my file for DEO Pilot, and he told me that I've been merit listed. While I realize this doesn't guarantee anything, it's good to see that my file hasn't been completely stagnating and that the wheels are still turning. It has...

Zero Pilots Being Hired in 2009?

Thanks for the replies and clarification guys. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. Good to hear that you have heard some "potentially" positive news for April though Biggs. And yes, I would agree Snyper. All other things being equal, I'm sure they'll take a CPL guy over a...

Zero Pilots Being Hired in 2009?

I applied back in August 2008 and passed ASC in May 2009. Sure hope there's more than 10 spots, as I'll bet there are more than 10 people in front of me. On that note, does anyone know the average DEO pilot openings per year? Or is it too variable? Either way, best of luck to all waiting.

Zero Pilots Being Hired in 2009?

Very disheartening news for sure. I'm scheduled for Aircrew Selection for May 11-15. Will I still be going, or will they be halting testing until they are ready to take on new hires again (whenever that is - I'm DEO)? If I do still go, and am successful, would I then be merit listed and then...

Conflicting Information - Is there a good way to sort it out?

Hollanr - I hope things eventually work out for you and wish you all the best. Sounds like you have the right attitude about it.

Conflicting Information - Is there a good way to sort it out?

I've applied for Pilot as a DEO, and am now just waiting for my medical to come back and hopefully will get a date for ACS. I remember during my interview, the Captain told me that if I had applied one year earlier (meaning Sept 2007), he wouldn't even have interviewed me, as they had a surge of...

ATTN people to apply for ROTP Pilot

Yes, LASIK is acceptable, however I was told it's only the IntraLase LASIK method that's accepted. I found this out while going through the pilot application process and having just recently gotten the surgery (I had PRK). Always best to have this double and triple confirmed though if you're...

Vision Questions Megathread, Categories, Problems etc.

jonz67 - That was true in the past, but it's definitely accepted now. But medecineman is correct, only certain kinds are allowed. I can't stress enough how important it is to have your prospective surgeon call a Medical Officer at CFRC to discuss the details. For example - I was told Lasik is...

Vision Questions Megathread, Categories, Problems etc.

I had PRK surgery in late August of this year. I then applied for Pilot as a DEO in September. The CFAT and interview went well, however the fact that I had eye surgery has stalled the process. I will need to have my surgeon sign off on a form that basically says my eyes are stable and that...
