    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

Personally, I’d like to see a multi use area where a hangar might be on a helo carrying vessel. It could house any number of mission specific equipment sets and perhaps a VTOL uav (S-100 or V-Bat for example) more or less permanently. I think a flight deck with a refuel capability would be an...

Sorry OGBD, I didn’t see your post until after I responded. I see you are relocating the centre of gravity to lower in the vessel.

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

What’s the fundamental issue with the stability in the class? I’m just wondering if it’s endemic to the platform or if it could be mitigated somehow other than restricting where it can go. I think your assault boat might be feasible for Arctic/riverine usage but I can’t imagine it being super...

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

I’m just wondering if those assault style boats are necessarily the best fit? Wouldn’t it make more sense just to build more ORCA’s for that role? We already know the ship and it serves well as a training platform too. If you strengthened the foredeck a little more to accept a proper RWS, I...

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

Sure, but that seems light for DC in a vessel that is longer and displaces more than a CPF. I don’t know if that crew number is super realistic, crew burnout is a real worry. Look what happened to the LCS guys, reportedly.

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

I think that’s a little big and crew intensive for what they’re looking for. It’s essentially a somewhat less capable HALIFAX, so I think that might be overkill.

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

I wonder if there’s something out there that has a version of a mission bay on an OPV/Corvette sized vessel. I keep thinking about how the Germans, French, British etc are moving towards small autonomous/remote operated surface vessels with deployable mine clearing systems. It your Tier 2 vessel...

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

Do they want something that can take on more roles than an MCDV does now, if so, what would those roles be? FONOPS in the SCS, possibly? Or is it that they just want a platform that addresses the class’s shortcomings to be able to better perform the tasking it does now. How much of a difference...

    Canadian Surface Combatant RFQ

I suppose the part that I found most alarming was that the bulk of our sea power is concentrated in the CPF’s and their days are numbered. A long birth for the CSC’s put us in worse position than others. The RN has a little bit more to fall back on with the Type 45, subs and even Rivers for...

    Canadian Surface Combatant RFQ

2035…Holy Hell. I hope there’s some sort of Plan B that the RCN is working on, because if there’s anything I’ve learned from this forum, it’s that the CPF’s are rounding the bend. It looks very much like the Navy is going to be short on warships in the not too distant future and I have to wonder...

    Replacing the Subs

It was meant to be a bit tongue in cheek. I’d love to see how they’d handle security at, say, Iroquois Lock with a nuke boat in transit. Also, it makes any chance of quick response to a perceived threat almost non existent, unless you want it enforcing no wake zones in and out of Cobourg Marina…

It’s on the list, I’m sure.

    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

If it’s anything like the first 4 accepted, it’ll be one busy vessel right out of the gate.

    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

Understood. Wasn’t certain if the Scanter had that ability…I thought I’d read at one point it was capable of tracking air targets as well as for organic helo ops.

    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

Oh yes, I realize that, but I think it’s predominantly for use against small surface targets and unlikely to be effective against airborne threats. I don’t know how likely it is that they will ever face anything like that, but something like the 30mm seemed a good fit with a dual purpose, but...

    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

That’s always been my problem with the 25mm. No airburst ammunition, elevation not terribly useful against airborne targets. It’s kind of a one trick pony. Maybe they’ll get swapped out for Lionfish at some point during the CSC buy.

    Type 31 for Canada?

I think if we were to do anything other than what is the plan right now, the only consideration might be to take Vard/Heddle up on the upgunned Vigilance vessel. At least, as a corvette, it would be less likely to cause a reduction in RIVER class numbers. With its containerized mission sets, it...
