    Happy 125th

My sister and I just did the Ortona toast as a favour to some members of the Regiment. Happy 125th to the RCR and The RCDs.

    Annual Army Run (merged)

Just about everybody ran faster than me! LOL But it was my first half so I'm pleased with my time. All I wanted to do was cross the finish line still standing!

OMG...I thought they were crazy. We passed them around the 19K mark. Saw them after the finish line. They did pretty well.

Telling the "Life Stories" of our Troops

Please don't feel helpless Tracy. We understand that there is nothing that you can do or say. Just thank our soldiers for the job they do and the sacrifices they make. Wear red on Friday and a poppy on Remembrance Day. Thank you for realizing that our soldiers were also people with very rich...

Telling the "Life Stories" of our Troops

However, what you might come up with are families that just want their privacy back. Yes they are so much more than just their job. But families like mine are just trying to get back to some sense of normalcy and don't necessarily want to be back in the spotlight again.

The Red Fridays Foundation of Canada & Repatriation Memorial Rally (May 08): Objections & Praise

I'm sure that the families were treated very well. If it were my son or daughter, I imagine I would forever publicly mourn my child. However, as a spouse, there comes a point where you need to move on and begin living again. Imagine how tiring it can get to be paraded about as a "celebrity"...

The Red Fridays Foundation of Canada & Repatriation Memorial Rally (May 08): Objections & Praise

Thank you very much Roadrunner. I'm positive Kerry will be very happy. As for the news saying that Kerry recanted her request....I don't think so. Her response back to the foundation was remove it or else!!!

The Red Fridays Foundation of Canada & Repatriation Memorial Rally (May 08): Objections & Praise

Based on news coverage, they said they would remove the name if there was any objection to it. Fact is that Kerry Arnold is her husband's NOK. And from what I know, the foundation did not contact his family. It was another family that passed the info on to them. They for sure did not contact any...

The Red Fridays Foundation of Canada & Repatriation Memorial Rally (May 08): Objections & Praise

What's funny Vern is that we get all kinds of invitations and offers by other organizations. They contact the Centre who passes it along to us. They don't give out our addresses but they do forward it to us. If this organization wanted to reach that should have been the route to take....contact...

The Red Fridays Foundation of Canada & Repatriation Memorial Rally (May 08): Objections & Praise

So much for him removing any names of the car. My girlfriend emailed the website asking for her husband's name to be removed and to tell them how upset she was that she had not been contacted. Here is the response: Dear Mrs. Arnold,             We here at the Red Fridays Foundation of...

The Red Fridays Foundation of Canada & Repatriation Memorial Rally (May 08): Objections & Praise

As far as I know, none of the families that I know have a problem with a red rally. We have attended those that we could . The biggest complaint that I have heard is the simulated procession along the Highway of Heros. Red Fridays is about supporting our serving troops. Trust me when I say that...

The Red Fridays Foundation of Canada & Repatriation Memorial Rally (May 08): Objections & Praise

The funny thing is that I knew nothing about this rally except from this site until I received an email from the mom of another fallen soldier. If they want to "advertise" that families of the fallen will be attending, shouldn't they have invited all the families. It's really not that hard to...

The Red Fridays Foundation of Canada & Repatriation Memorial Rally (May 08): Objections & Praise

I was not aware at all that my husband's name would be displayed on a vehicle. No one from the organization approached me about this or invited me to this rally. A lot of other organizations have done things to honor the fallen and their families and contacted us thru the military. However, this...

Pay: Statements, Backpay, Benefits, Deductions (Taxes, T4), Deployed ect... [MERGED]

In order to claim haircuts, etc you need your employer (DND) to sign a form - Conditions of Employment - stating that these expenses are required for your job. Good luck getting anyone with signing authority to put their signature on the form. Every year we got the same questions from clients...

The Red Fridays Foundation of Canada & Repatriation Memorial Rally (May 08): Objections & Praise

Me too! I, for one, don't need another day to publicly mourn my husband's death. I will do that on the anniversary and on Remembrance Day. There comes a point in my life where I have to live life instead of reliving that awful day.

    Grammar and Sentence Structures

One thing I noticed when I was in school was that they stopped teaching grammar...it wasn't in the curriculum anymore. Then when I was in my final year, we were expected to write essays with correct grammar and most of the kids in my class didn't even know what a conjunction was. About the only...

    Crumpets and Marmite

My husband used to LOVE marmite....Would put it on everything. He would bring it overseas with him and get the guys to try it!!! They pretty much had the same reaction as me....YUCK! LOL  An old neighbour used to make Marmite tea...Marmite and hot water...ewwww!  His aunt was a flight...

NY Times article: Coping With Loss, Military Kin Also Struggle With a Windfall

At first, it almost feels like blood money. And trust me when I say everyone of us that I know would give every cent back just to have them walk through the door. Then you get all the various investment people offering to help you with your money...yet another decision to make. Family seems to...
