Non issue NAVAL kit over seas

If there is any org in the CF that could make a case for a releasable vest I would think it would be the boarding parties. Being able to dump my rig and armour instantly if I went in the water would be 100 times more important than having a vest in AR CADPAT. MSA Paraclete RAV

Personal Question regarding pistols (looking for input)

I have a Norc 870 and M14 copy and they are both excellent quality for the price.  That being said you can't go wrong with a Glock!  ;)

    Close protection TV

In all fairness the TV was designed before the Afghanistan mission, it's the resistance to accept feedback from the end user and make improvements/replacements that frustrates me. I guess when it takes as long as it does to conceive, design, test, manufacture and field a new piece of kit the...

    Close protection TV

roger that!  ;D I still dream of the day there are multiple molle rigs with a many different molle pouches in the system, imagine being able to let your mission dictate your kit loadout!

    Close protection TV

IIRC they were running concealable-style soft armour separate from the PC.

    Close protection TV

Not quite, the CP teams are issued their gear to meet the requirement of the task, it's not the members getting permission to wear their own kit. Someone, somewhere has made the case that the issue kit is insufficient for the job and has had the gear purchase approved and funded... I'm sure...

Troops carrying pistols outside the gate

I've heard the same thing about how leaving mags loaded will weaken the spring and cause malfunctions from DLR reps, it's WRONG! Springs do not weaken from being under tension, they weaken by either exceeding their elastic deformation limits or by repeated cycling...  ::)

    Close protection TV

IIRC they were using a Blackhawk plate carrier overtop of soft body armor, combined with belt kit.

Wanted: Feedback from C6 gunners from there time in Afghanistan.

Well aware of that, I should have been more clear. The part about the SAW nutsacks was in response to Kevins833 post about using multiple teaser bags (for the C6) as mags, how many SAW gunners run their gun using that concept with the nutsacks. Different gun, similar idea. cheers, C-6

Wanted: Feedback from C6 gunners from there time in Afghanistan.

Have you checked out lightfighter.net? There is a ton of info on that forum and the US uses the same gun. I recall that many of the SAW gunners use the 100rnd nutsacks on their LMG's. They would carry 4 on their vest instead of two 200rnd boxes...

    Balistics vs Stab Vest

To add more confusion, an icepick/prison shiv vest is not the same as a blade vest. I had a conversation with a BAE Systems armour rep recently at a trade show and he had both models on display, along with the standard testing blades. The ice pick vest was very thin and light, much thinner...

Therefore ... we should stay in Afghanistan

David, thanks for posting this. I like the review date of 2011 to coincide with the end of the Afghanistan Compact mandate. I emphasize the review date rather than withdrawl date because it's impossible to set a firm end date if we are to leave the Afghans in position for success. Saying...

"The stuff the army issues is useless" and "no non-issue kit over seas!"

Massif makes a whole line of FR stuff as well, including thermal underware, fleece and waterproof/breathable. More and more FR kit is hitting the street, inlcuding UnderArmor and 5.11... I am picking up some FR kit for tour, starting with Hatch Nomex HK Operator gloves that should show up in...

Taliban can't be defeated by troops: Layton

I'm sure he knows what the situation is, he's counting on voters not knowing... I also think he's using the "peacekeeper" argument because he know's it won't happen but it sounds better that "let the Afghan people fend for themselves"... You're 100% correct that is makes no sense, I wish the...
