I would propose that providing Internet does allow them to get the "mail" on time.  Parcels by container ship or plane yes,  contact from home, not so much.  IMO troops do the majority of their contact home via the Internet and not through written letters.  I'm sure there were many letters sent...

Have you tried EBay?  I found 4 of the first 5 units you still need prices for on there for sale.  You could also send each of the missing Regiments a letter asking for them to donate a cap badge if your project warrants such.

Wow!  Then I see your points.  All I can say is that not all units are like that.  Mine is definitely not.  Normally It is the Company Commander down, with any additional support as needed depending on the Ex.  No support needed, no additional pers.  The CO and RSM may visit for part of the day...

If they don't then how do we train Company commanders, CSMs etc... to be able to become future COs and RSMs?  They need to get that experience somewhere.  It's hard enough as it is to get pers ready for succession now.  I can't imagine how we do it without opportunities like those you mention.

I'm assuming you're talking about Camp Julian, but if your referring to Canadian bases, you can freely drive onto many (most?) of them in Canada.  Why block Google Maps when you can drive around anyhow?  Camp Julian on the other hand is observeable from some of the surrounding land, so again why...
