I think that stopped. I didn't go down there and no one I work with recalls doing so within the last 9 yrs.

Back in the day they used to have Sonarman as a trade. They were operators and techs at the same time.  Eventually, they separated. the techs are now called NET(S)--Naval Electronics Technician(Sonar). Ocean Ops(people who ran land based sonar) and NACOPs(the ones who did it from a ship)...
