David Rudd: Navy's days are numbered

Just thinking out loud, but could the American LPD-17 fulfill the 280s C&C roles in a taskgroup? Obviously there would still leave the AAW role to fill.......but it could be a start  :-\ Just about to hit the post button and then I read this...

Theater & Continental Balistic Missile Defence . . . and Canada

"Well, boys, I reckon this is it - nuclear combat toe to toe with the Roosskies......." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4052847.stm "......we must not allow... a mine shaft gap!"   ;)

    Loss of the 280s

That is a good point, but I don't know that it would really mater. First off, what would be more embarrassing to the government, operating the 280s past 2015, in which time frame they will be nearing their 50th birthdays or operating more modern (and capable) cruisers that will be in their early...

    Loss of the 280s

And to prevent any confusion: Thomas Gates: http://www.gates.navy.mil/images/photos/rr/DSC_0986%20copy.jpg Note the MK 26 just aft of the 5 inch and the second launcher aft of the flight deck. The status of the: Ticonderoga http://navysite.de/cg/cg47.html Yorktown...

    Loss of the 280s

They are decommissioning the Spruances, but they are also decommissioning the first five Ticos......Two, possably three have already been decommissioned, Ticonderoga and Yorktown I know for sure and I believe Vally Forge has been or is about to be deactivated. IIRC Vincennes and Thomas S. Gates...

    Loss of the 280s

Sorry for bringing this topic up again  :-\ Just wondering, would it be feasible (if money was there and the Americans were willing) to hammer out some sort of lease with the Americans for three (of the five) non-VLS equipped Ticos (which they are starting to decomission)? Then put them through...

    China launches ICBM-capable submarine: Pentagon

I think you might be confusing the Bomarc with the Honest John. As for the Americans intervening over a conflict between China and Taiwan, BMD will likely have the same affect on the Chinese......... As for a conflict in Asia, I disagree with you on the premise that China doesn't place that...

    Submarine Economics

Did you or a member of your family build your own home? Did you or a member of your family grow your own food? Knit your own clothes? If not why? Wouldn't those resources that you spend to purchase these items be better spent if kept within your family? ......or the money saved on corporate...

Canadian Submarine Capabilites (What can they do? Do we need them?)

Though I agree with you on the savings involved with the Victoria's....... Vickers Canada built submarines for the Royal Navy during the first world war in Montreal..... With that said, I'd doubt Canadian yards today could build a modern sub without headaches and a hefty pricetag.......

RN Cancels Future Surface Combatant, may opt for Type 45 Variant + New Corvette

After reading the article on the Darings (amongest other literature) and the possable type 45 based global cruiser, I'm of the opinion that most of these requirements could have been met with a Burke or a British variant {see chip deep fryer and liquor cabinet equipped wardroom} of the American...

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

Why? Did you, or a combination of you and your family build your home? Your Car? Make your own clothes? Raise/grow your own food? If not, why? Do you not think it prudent to keep your families income within your family? I've no problem with admitting that I can't do those before mentioned tasks...

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

Yes. Now without diving into the political realm too much, let me ask you this, did you or a member of your family design and sew your before mentioned thong? If not, why?

"Of course you know, this means war!!!"

Who has the "potential" then? If there were other countries to trade with, obviously we could just increase production, and in turn the volume of our trade "stuffs" would increase. Well that makes two of us that are ashamed of some of their fellow Canadians.......granted for different...

"Of course you know, this means war!!!"

Like who? Do you also propose that all Canadians that manufacture goods for a living (ie Cars) become farmers when the United States puts tariffs on more of our goods due to this trade war? Now before we draw up a declaration for a trade war, I suggest sober minds come together and understand...
