Trudeau Popularity - or not (various polling, etc.)

Did the RCAF retain flight stewards ? How exactly is this being staffed and managed ?
Yes. It's and Out of Trade posting pan-CAF that provides in-flight services and safety.

A good friend of mine (Line Tech) just finished a 4 year stint there before reluctantly taking the promotion to Sgt and coming to the school.

Those would be flight attendants. Flight Stewards were actual Stewards, sometimes a cook, in charge of flight attendants.

I think the issue is a sanctimonious political class that will tell the unwashed masses to make cuts and tighten our belts and then get 600$ meals on flights.
I paid $200 for a meal once while on TD and claimed it. Why? I was nowhere near a base, it was 2200hrs and I hadn't eaten since noon, and the only place open was a wine/jazz bar that happened to have a grill open that late. I also reemed the hell out of the Travel Coordinator for scheduling my travel in such a way that I put in that position.

In the end, I needed to eat and I was stuck paying for the availiabilty.

Right, wrong or lack of other choices the optics is terrible.
Optics are often based on when lense you're using.

Say our Head of State or Head of Government are stranded across the ocean because they chose to fly Air Canada vice VIP flight? There would be gripes about that.

I remember the embarrassment that everyone felt when RCAF001 cacked out in India, and the gripes about that.

Easy, Reliable, Cheap. Pick 2

The difference is you're not part of the sanctimonious political class. You know yourself, as a leader, that the standard you expect is the standard you have to portray.

And that simple bit of common or shared adversity goes a long way.

Gad we are a parsimonious country. I wonder if people grizzle about the food on Air Force One. Some folks would only be happy if the Head of Government or Head of State flew Porter, stood in the security line with the rest of we unwashed and bagged their own food.
Porter offers complimentary snacks and drinks; why should taxpayers cover that when they could fly Flair?

I find it interesting that Flight Attendants and Flight Stewards are just postings. In Australia (with a similar sized VIP fleet), RAAF Crew Attendants are a trade that hires off the street.

Unsure how many of them then leave for Qantas or Virgin.

I imagine the RCAF used to have them as a trade. Just like l the services ha Clerks and cooks ect.

Maybe make it a function of the new Air Ops trade ?

There is also a sanctimonious lot that love to point out what they consider excessive - and PP can be one of them.
I am thinking once he's taken the reins the LPC and NDP will be saying the same thing about the "excessive expenditures" on VIP AC.

I recall one party (I think it was the PCs) complaining about the GG's budget. So what do you want? A GG that flies economy on the least expensive flight?

Human nature I guess. I'm pretty sure Mao and Lenin didn't lead the same lives as their citizens. There's a reason why every attempt at an egalitarian society have failed.

I'm ok with (resigned to?) class differences, or maybe role differences. I don't expect the PM or GG to cut their own grass or shovel their own driveway. I don't really mind not having a driver or having to take a commercial flight.

I remember when Bob Rae became Premier of Ontario he said he didn't need a security detail and could driver himself around. It lasted about 2 weeks.

Real Dictators is a podcast - and it highlights the excesses of these two "progressive" murderers along with Pol Pot, Stalin, the Kim dynasty, Il Duce, Der Fuehrer, and even some guy from Turkemenistan - Turkmenbashy.

Mao was a particularly vile human being even in his private life.

ADDING: the fact that there are people in this world that admire Lenin, Stalin and a basic admiration for China's dictatorship tell me they are a threat.

One lesson I learned early on was, "Don't call me a stewardess. I'm a flight attendant." :)
A friend of ours is a retired Air Hag (her term, not mine) for Jazz. I don't know why anybody would want to do that for a living and how the airlines can still get away with paying them like they do. Their clock doesn't start until doors closed/pushback.

There a set of video clips coming up on my facebook feed. I guess it's contract time for the AC Flight Attendants and a couple of them are quite cleaver. One says AC is going to provide unlimited legroom - by eliminating seats and have everyone stand (and shows a picture of a subway-type setup). Don't think a discount airline Board hasn't dreamed about it.

We flew Westjet from Victoria to Winnipeg - the attendants were attractive young women with the cold dead eyes of Mossad assassins....

I guess that's what that job does to you.....kinda like corrections....

Not sure if that’s the best way to go. They are still aircrew and would require aircrew medical standards, etc. Not to the level of pilots or ACSOs but some conditions can still rule them out which wouldn’t apply to ground-based folks.

The Air Ops Officers and Techs don’t need them.

The way things are going, it wouldn't surprise me if Trudeau tried to prorouge parliament till the summer.

That's what I've been seeing. He'll prorogue Parliament either just before or immediately after the winter session. Ride out the spring session and then call an election.

My gut says he's going to stretch his tenure down to the last possible minute. He can still cause massive damage to the country and scatter poison pills around for PP to continually trip over.

In reality, he's a spiteful little prick.
